In Mr. Strong Guy '96 (Vovchanchyn’s first 8 man tourney win) they had, a bowl-like ring. It was way the hell bigger than any other ring I’ve ever seen, and had a raised, padded edge.

I thought it was the best ring ever.

Maybe put the fighters in a pit with spectators looking down on them. And it would still be cool telling people you’re a pit fighter.

The impact glass is an interesting idea. I would be concerned that it could get smeared during the fight, but surely there is some way of getting around that (the aforementioned inter-round cleaning). The real deciding factor is just how smaread the glass will get from sweat/blood in a short time.

My biggest concern is how easily you could cut someone by tossing their head into it. It has less give than the cage, but can cause the kind of pressure than will just split skin open.

i think it’s good kickboxing. Wild punches? some guys looked pretty good… plus the short rounds are to encourage action… which there was a LOT of… PLUS they allow knees…

i was actually impressed.

of course its not MMA… it’s not claiming to be MMA… i’m surprized you thought the punches were wild… i thought they looked decent-good.

Maybe my original statement was a bit harsh(I just watched it with a few beers). The main problem I have is that it makes guys(and girls) get constantly hit in the head. You get penalized for defense. In that regards it’s more dangerous than PRIDE and UFC.

I just watched a WCL event and it just looked amateurish and silly. It’s like they are encouraged to go out there and play “rock’em sock’em robot.” It’s just a 3 minute “who can punch harder” match. It’s not good kickboxing at all.

I’d like to see a platform that collapses in the middle, like in Bloodsport. Currently, those are only used in underground fighting (apparently).

There’s also the issue of a cage being (probably) cheaper, having the give that Kat mentioned, not needing any maintenance (AFAIK), and sounding much cooler.

I just wish the IFL would get a cage or something similar. I hate it when fighters get mixed up in the ropes.

Phrost my friend we will have to disagree on that. I find watching through a cage fence really really annoying. Especially from far away.
