Welcome to Bullshido, the best Martial Arts forum on the entire Internet, AdamSlayer. Seriously, you won’t regret your choice to join us. We’re a great bunch of folks, except for Hannibal. And Sirc. And TaiGip. And MMA Kid. And… well, you get the point.
I get my ass kicked a lot. Does that count?
And yes, lots of people on this site fight. For example, one of the forum leaders is a UFC fighter.
To summarize the dominant attitude on this board (which is not to say it is universal):
Aikido, as a general rule, trains almost exclusively with extreme levels of compliance. Its techniques are thus untested against resisting adversaries, causing the training it provides to be essentially valueless.
The evidence of this is primarily based upon Aikido’s lack of representation among real fighters. If Aikido worked, it would be well-represented in mixed martial arts tournaments and events, since its techniques are not disallowed by MMA rules. The fact is that Aikidoka appear to be uninterested in empirically demonstrating the effectiveness of their art through competition. The argument that competition is ego-driven and unhealthy is problematic–it insulates ineffective arts from having to demonstrate their value, thereby endangering their own students who are led to believe they are learning to defend themselves when that may not be the case. Moreover, a truly humble martial artist would not simply assume his art were superior, and would welcome competition with other styles so that his own style could grow and develop. By and large, this attitude is absent from the teaching of Aikido.
That, I think, is a fair paraphrase of a large number of posters’ views on Aikido. You can read the many related threads for a better picture.
How I make my money is none of your business.
When was you last victory?
I think that would have been Double-Octafinals at the National Parliamentary Debate Association national tournament, 2006.
Adam, go to the throwdown board, and show up at the next event near you. I wanna see footage of your uber JKD skillz owning all the keyboard warriors who post here. I’m so sick and tired of their tough talk and hating on things they never trained in. You sound like someone who really knows what you’re doing and is actually down to earth with the reality of REAL martial arts training. Go get’m!
Oh you guys fucking suck. I was just about to have some fun with this one. How come only Omega gets to have the fun?
Auditioning for the ability to fuck with the newbies in newbietown hasn’t changed. It requires you to take twelve unanswered knees to the head without being knocked out or cut, still be cognizant enough to flip off your opponent in the middle of it, and come right back and take it to him right afterward.
