From a practical standpoint, I have everything I need to tear down and rebuild an AR pattern rifle, up to and including spare parts, calipers, specs to ensure proper tolerances, and modified headspace gauges for .223 family cartridges. I can pretty much do it from memory, too. With that, decent suppressor compatibility, predictable and acceptable fouling cycles, and the largely sealed action, it is sort of my favorite by default. Once an AK pattern rifle goes down, it is not always easy to get running again. The lack of a well sealed action also causes issues when you start introducing foreign matter into it, and it’s not like you can swap major parts like the barrel out all that easily. I don’t know if the Vz58 has similar issues given the sheer openness of the action, and the short stroke gas piston. I know they don’t suppress well, though.
That said, nothing puts a smile on my face like an old milsurp bolt gun or a well made lever action. Apparently I own too many rifles to be good at choosing a favorite action.
Ooh, that reminds me, my grand-daddy has a pair of M1 carbine surplus. Those are neat guns, I hope that I get to own them.
That is enough rifle for me. It is a CZ model 550. The lightest I can get is 287 grains, maims on one end and kills on the other. The model 76, light recoil and runs smooth. I have been having fun with my Rossi Mareleg in .45 long colt. Joe

I own a tikka battue 9.3 . Great little rifle, open sights, short barrel and light. Expensive ammo though. Enough power to put down anything with a heart beat and sever limbs.
Their guns are criminally underrated. The value is insane.
I like the laminated stainless version … not cause I am hard core and plan on playing soldier or survivor man deep in the woods … but because it looks like I could pass that rifle down throughout the fall of civilization and then the same rifle could be used to champion the rise of a civilization 300 years later. Or at least a generation.
Now that is cool " LAMINATE CALIBER/RATE OF TWIST/NUMBER OF GROOVES: 30-06/11"/4 MAGAZINE CAPACITY:3 RDS FINISHING: STAINLESS STEEL TRIGGER GROUP: STANDARD TRIGGER HANDEDNESS::RIGHT BARREL LENGTh: 570mm TOTAL LENGTH:1080mm "
hehhehehe it comes in 30-06!
No… it’s fantasy.
I have settled on a Mossberg 500. Once I meet a couple other goals it will be my reward. No distraction with dirty dirty Finnish gun porn (in 308! check out the PDF sheet!). I am not even going to look up a quote. I don’t care how much the laminated stainless version that caught my eye costs. Nope.

I know, I know, when I was looking for rifles for my kids and wife, one of the first places I looked at was Sako and Tikka. I knew I couldn’t afford even a used one on my budget, but I had to drool anyway…
But it reminded me of my long-time fantasy rifle:
Ruger #1A, satin stainless, Kilamanjaro laminated walnut stock, in .35 Whelen. Of course, I could opt for the the 9.3x62, but a 30/06 or .308 Win. would be more practical. http://kilimanjarorifles.com/features/lamination.html These laminated stocks are beautiful but not effected by rain, heat, cold.
