I know i really shouldn’t be posting this here, due to serious death threats made by some of the mods and admins, but i feel it is necessary to explain just what Qi is, at least from the perspective of a person who happens to be the son and nephew of two traditional Chinese medical specialists.
First off, Qi is internal energy. what this simply means is that qi is bioelectricity – a type of magnetism found within the human self. Qi is designed as part adrenaline, part ATP. the first definition of qi is that it is relased by the body during extreme exercise. This way, the body never runs out of energy or does so very slowly.
The second definition of Qi is as a bodily KE. KE stands for kinetic energy. When the base is planted firmly, the top is freed loose, and the hip is the controlling turn-force, then the hips generate a KE that goes up through the chest/torso and out through the arms to push away, or even pulverize any object in its way.
The third definition of Qi is a little more spiritual. It refers to breath, or the breath of life. Due to my stance as a scientist, i will not go into territory where i have no authority.
The final definition of Qi is as a compliment. IE, try saying “Good wok-qi” to a Chinese cook who cooks in the style of Fukien or Canton. They’ll be very pleased and may just waive your fee!
I hope I have enlightened everyone in what Qi is, so anyone who makes BS statements about Qi can be effectively diregarded until a later date, possibly when elephants dance.
i believe a thread trying to explain qi,chi, ki, or prana has already been made. If you search under chi or ki you’ll probably find more than one thread that is just like this one.
I have a VCD from Taiwan that teaches flute technique. Note that this isn’t “Secret Taoist Flute Techniques of the Immortals”, it’s just a random VCD from a series that teaches traditional chinese instruments. I’ve been watching it off and on to try and learn something from it, even though my Putonghua is pathetic.
In it, the flute teacher asks us at one point to direct our Qi to the Dan Tien. I’m pretty sure he’s saying “breathe into the lower abdomen”, not “direct your internal energy into your Lower Treasure Palace”. “Qi” means “breath”; “Yang Qi” means electricity, and you can look either of these up in a dictionary of Chinese and frankly I wish people would.
As for Wok Qi, my understanding is that it is literally the hot wind that rises off a superheated wok and essential for true Cantonese stir-fry, which is done on a fire hotter than most of us can achieve on stovetop. That’s why you might say “Hao wok qi” to compliment a chef; if you were complimenting a swordsman you might say “Hao Jien Fa” or “good sword technique”, and so on. You can’t just work “Qi” into a statement and expect it to be complimentary.
I’m sorry, but the SEARCH function HAS BEEN CANCELED by my school, which owns the computer I use. Maybe next time you can be a little more thoughtful towards college students, or else when we graduate we’ll just smash the state, take over the government, and execute all ye geezers, bioch!
Actually, anything that remotely resembles a search box and button set has been BANNED by our school, except for a few search engines (such: Yahoo! Altavista and Google). But there still is ways to hack the system, and since i’m a hacker, that’s how i got through. But my CRADAR system tells me they’ve just caught my signal. Bye! (Changing ports affirmative)
