I posted a bunch of crap in the wrong forum
Well, that was officially TL;DRable, so no offense taken. Anyways, I didn’t think the forum concerning BS was the wrong forum to post something about BS.

Another RBSD apologist
After years of reading this forum, I finally subscribed to post a long, TL;DRable thing about why it’s easy to confuse actual BS with legitimate stuff.

I’m gonna take a good example, here. I happen to study psychology from time to time. I like the sh*t. It’s fascinating.
Anyways, there is a “discipline” in psychology that is basically filled with huge amounts of crap.
It’s called graphology.

Now, graphology is some kind of “science”, supposed to basically give you everything about a person based on their handwriting.
I know, right?
It’s a lotta bollocks. It was tested, proven wrong, period.

Now, point is, there is a part of truth in graphology, a very instinctive one, too: It’s actually true that large, messy handwriting is more extravert than tiny, pussyassed handwriting. Usually.
Point is, there is a bit of truth in this sh*t, but you can be no expert of that tiny list of useful info.
So, they got technical, and tried to extend this list from 3 pages to 10 big-ass books, a mural painting of the size of New-Zealand and a scribbled footnote on toilet paper.
That’s when BS starts. When you forget what graphology can give you, and try to make it bigger.

End of example.

So, in my conception, there are 3 main types of martial arts, when you talk about empty-handed sh*t.

I’ll call them Kata, Randori, and Tatakai.

And then they all split.
-There is Educative-Kata and Medicinal-Kata, Sparring-Randori and Grappling-Randori, and Tatakai.

Most martial arts are a mix of several sub categories. Whatever, kept simple here.
So, one by one.

-Medicinal-Kata:
E.g Tai Chi (Though some parts are educational, e.g Tui Shu)
That’s just using Martial Arts Inspired moves to feel better in your body. It is not BS, it’s just not meant for combat.
If any teacher tells you that’s useful in combat, that’s when it gets BS. Not before.

-Educative Kata
E.g Aikido
Now, those are educatives. It is, again, not BS. You will learn a lot in Aikido about how keys work. I did it, I am now better in everything else. The point is using very specific exercises to get the “feel” of how something works.
It is mainly useless stand-alone, though. It’s just something you may add to improve a more general practice, or do stand alone with no hope of ever using it in the street.
If any teacher tells about the superiority of this kind of martial arts in real combat, that’s when the BS starts.

-Sparring-Randori & Grappling-Randori
E.g MT and BJJ
Now, those are meant for the ring. Kicks and punches, or keys and submissions. Not BS, again. They teach the most common attacks and how to defend, inside a set of rules.
They are mostly more complicated to use outside the rules and ring, and mostly useless against armed or multiple opponents. Anyone telling they are superior in a bar against three knives is a bit of BS.

-Tatakai
E.g Krav-Maga
Those are meant for real-life encounters. Again, not BS. They train against multiple opponent, arms, complicated environment. The techniques are usually quick ways of going from a threatening situation to an opponent bad-shaped enough to let you run.
They are hardly useful in a ring, because Randori-users are technically superior in their tinier area of circumstances, because rules apply, and because the opponent knows you’re up to a fight. Anyone telling you they rule the ring, and they just called in BS.

Now, you might ask, what do I think about the best category?
I prefer Tatakai, but I think that you should base your fighting style on a Tatakai style, (Krav, Systema, Booj), add practice in both randori styles, and do Educative Kata Sparingly to learn faster the stuff you have trouble with. That’s MMA for you.
Some schools do that, e.g AKBAN. (Booj+MT+BJJ+Judo+A mix of techniques from MMA&Krav Maga) I’m seriously considering moving over there just for this school. But that’s another story.
Anyways. No best category, really. Depends what you’re looking for. I prefer Tatakai, that’s my problem. My thing. It’s no better than doing Qi Gong. Just not the same thing.

Here we go.
The point is, here, none of these styles are BS, and all can be turned into BS.
They are just utterly different.

So, when a guy says he’s into Aikido, he’s learning, and you can’t go “MT beats Aikido lolololol u so bad fuck off n00b”. You can’t compare and educative kata system to a sparring system. It just does not make any sense.
When a ninjer comes, you should not either compare it to your superior BJJ. And he should not say you’re stupid because you don’t study much weapons and your style is useless on poured broken glass. Because that’s totally different.
And when a guy says he’s loving how good Tai-Chi feels, don’t hate as long as he’s not saying he “trains to throw Chi shuriken”.

But, when Dillman says you can win a fight by using Kyusho-Jitsu, you can say “What a load of B.S!”
Kyushos are real, e.g nuts. But they are merely a tiny part of what’s necessary to have a proper combat system. So, as in graphology, they made it overly complex and added a lot of useless Kyusho, so they could write their mural, 10 books, and then crap in toilet paper. And then they thought they could change their tiny Educative-Kata system to a full Tatakai or Randori system.
That, my friends, is what BS is.

And also, don’t call BS a method of learning of a category you don’t train in. Slow practice of Katas seems as silly to Randori as punching-ball practice to Tatakai. It’s still very useful. Not BS, as long as it’s not the only thing you do. When a guy that only practiced kata slow says his Tatakai Dojo rules, or when a guy that never only punched a ball says his randori club rocks, that’s BS for you.

That, my friends, is what BS is. Real BS. Don’t confuse, hater!
1. If you have lurked for years, it seems a bit surprising that you decided to start your thread in our investigative forum, rather than this one, Newbietown, the forum specifically dedicated to new members introducing themselves to the board.

 2. Have you ever, or do you currently train in any martial art?

1.The point is not really to introduce myself. I just wanted to make my point about BS. I hate introducing, but if it’s really mandatory, I can do it just for your cute eyes. Ain’t I a sweet person?

 1. Yes, I have. Mainly TMA’s and a lot of cross-training. Right now, I can’t, health issues. Should resume next year. I hate health issues for that. It’s the second time I have to stop for more than a year.

Err, did you miss-read something? I’m defending Tai-Chi, here, FFS. So long for RBSD.

So, anyways, seriously. Can I post something and have a debate here, or is it considered totally useless around those parts?

You can post in Newbietown (here) and people will be nice (except Omega), you can post in YMAS and take your chances, I think it would be a little better if you gave some of your background first but that’s just my opinion,

Welcome to Bullshido by the way,

Really? Because after reading what you wrote in your first post, I feel pretty comfortable labeling you as a typical RBSD person. Here it is again for posterity’s sake,

Yeah, that’s what I do like. Does not mean this post is aimed to defend only RBSD. I’m not going RBSD is supreme, here.

Here it is for posterity:

Anyways. No best category, really. Depends what you’re looking for. I prefer Tatakai, that’s my problem. My thing. It’s no better than doing Qi Gong. Just not the same thing.

Furthermore, I defend the usefulness of Aikido in training, which is a thing RBSD fanboys despise.

Thank you, I’ll post in YMAS. I don’t really care about being trolled. I troll hard in other places, I think it’s only right I get the same treat.

Now, this is YMAS, so troll me hard.:ExcitedTroll:

You’ve mentioned t3h_kr4v. Brace for impact.

um… I think you have a point in there, but you took your small obvious idea and blew it out of proportion into something much bigger than it is.

I salute your genius trolling, sir. :megusta:

Oh boy, you informally study psychology off and on? LOL.
Oh boy, you informally study psychology off and on? LOL.
I’m that cool.
More seriously, though, my studies are a bit overcomplicated, I’m not really on a simple 3-step diploma thing. I just wanted to spare you guys the whole explaining of my long list of colleges/courses/works. Explains that.
Oh boy, you informally study psychology off and on? LOL.
I think it is Ok though, it is synergistic with his informally on and off MA training, allowing him to come up with a genius “Too Deadly” post (it is a “Too Deadly” post isn’t it?)

Obviously, you have read for years. You have used the old arguments of the street, the ring, and multiple opponents to troll.
I think it is Ok though, it is synergistic with his informally on and off MA training, allowing him to come up with a genius “Too Deadly” post (it is a “Too Deadly” post isn’t it?)
Ah ah, no it isn’t, my friend :stuck_out_tongue:
I think it is Ok though, it is synergistic with his informally on and off MA training, allowing him to come up with a genius “Too Deadly” post (it is a “Too Deadly” post isn’t it?)
Yes it is a too deadly post. Krav, which gets Rzero’s panties and bra in a bunch, booj, and systema backed by “I am a part time psychology major I won’t bore you with ALL OF MY CLASSES.”

It will eventually devolve into “I was conducting an experiment” ala Ralph Severe and others.
Y Krav, which gets Rzero’s panties and bra in a bunch
Only when crappling.
