One of my relatives is now about 7 and I heard he has taken up taekwondo. I have seen lots of tae kwon do being taught to kids but feel that maybe Judo or boxing is a better art for pre-teens. What do you think?
Are these kids being groomed to be awesome fighters?
You know what the best part of actually training is? The great clarity of purpose it gives you in all your endeavours. You wouldn’t know that of course.
I have been training in TKD since i was 9 im 17 years old now and recieved my BB a year and half ago although my dad forced me into TKD because i wasnt the “Academic” type lol. In my opinion 7 years old is to young i believe the earliest a child should learn a martial art is around 11-13 so the person in question has the attention span and the life experience to apply what he/she has learned.
But to go back on topic i say TKD will be fine, you seem to have a decent understanding of martial arts well at least i hope you do. So you should be able to help your nephew and teach him how to use his TKD effectively. TKD if trained and practiced correctly can stand up to other striking arts. But alas i am biased because im a TKD practioner.

Ah, that’s a problem around here. You should try to be objective, far better than deluding yourself. Have you tried other arts or sparred heavy against other styles?
