Web Resources for people interested in drinking good beer

He is referring to 'Dunkel’s, which translates to darks in English.

I quite like Killkenny. My wife and I first had in in a Tasmanian pub, watching Sam Solimon in a kickboxing match. It was a freezing night, and the thick beer went down a treat in the hot pub, with smoke and ribaldry.

Considering the price, I prefer it over the Chimay.

I think were are starting to look at the second golden age of American craft beer.

It doesn’t have to be American microbrew. I SWEAR I’M NOT RACIST.

NSLightsOut’s Beer log

I commenced the night with a Rochefort Trappist 8 and am currently greatly enjoying a Weihenstephaner Vitus (Weissbock). I am due to finish my night with a Redoak Christmas Cheer (spiced beer - Aussie microbrew!!)

Funnily enough, I recently got my grubby little mitts on a few Anchor Steam Liberty Ales, which, as US beer goes, was actually pretty good. Next time I’m in your neck of the woods, I’ve got to find some decent microbrews.

It sucks that I’ve missed this thread up until now. Pale ales are some of my favorites, especially local favorites Sweetwater 420 and Terrapin Rye. Lately I’ve been getting into the Sweetwater Summer Hummer though. There isn’t much from Sweetwater that I don’t like; I firmly believe in supporting my local brewery:love3:

Have you come across Two Metre Tall? They have dark (‘Huon’) and pale ales (‘Forester’) worth trying. They’re not much to look at, and the head’s not impressive, but they have some great flavours.

Beers that are married?

Not yet, but I’ll look out for them.

I’ll throw in for the big, hoppy beers. I tend to prefer northwest style U.S. domestics, as international lagers tend to be too light for my tastes. I like my beers to kick me in the teeth a bit. Big and hoppy is usually my preference, but I deviate from that now and then. So, here’s a few of my favorites:

Rat City IPA - A new favorite. Maltier than many IPA, with an abundance of hops.
Dick’s IPA and ESB - Can’t go wrong with a little Dick’s
LaConner IPA and ESB - Top notch. Always.
Stone Arrogant Bastard, IPA, Ruination, etc. - Hops. Fuck yeah.
Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale - Even better than their flagship. (And more alcohol)
Maritime Pacific Brewing Jolly Roger Holiday - Tasty and dangerous. 8% ABV
Mac N Jack’s African Amber - Unfiltered malty, hoppy, tasty hangover maker.
Diamond Knot IPA - One of the best northwest IPAs
North Coast Brewing Red Seal Ale - Hoppy amber, well balanced
Elysian Brewing ESB - Beautiful northwest style amber/bitter.
Rogue Brutal Bitter - Possibly my favorite beer in the world. Amber/bitter with extra hops.

Samuel Smiths Pale Ale ftw.

Nectar.

If it’s not already been posted you gentlemen might find the Oxford Bottled Beer database useful:-

The description’s a bit lax.

Care to try?

A group of reviews for you to peruse. I really am a big fan of Samuel Smith’s beers. They’re a little expensive stateside, but Samuel Smith is one of the few British importers that bothers to send its beer over here in good condition. Most others don’t seem so successful.

My favorite Samuel Smith beer:

Samuel Smith’s Imperial Stout. Amazing beer. Hands down the best British Russian Imperial Stout that we receive stateside. The lower than average ABV for the style is a good reminder that amazing flavor doesn’t have to come in an alcohol bomb.

I’d also recommend trying the Winter Warmer, if you can get a fresh shipment of it. Just about everything they brew is great, though.

For those who enjoy Belgian Pale Ales, give Brooklyn Local 1 a try. Two sets of reviews:

The reviews range from medium to high, but I’d suggest trying it for yourself if you’re a fan of the style. I really don’t think a lot of people gave this beer a fair chance due to it not being brewed in Belgium.

It’s like I wrote that post myself. Except mine wouldn’t be so well informed.

I was going to call beer gong sau on Cullion though, because Sammy Smiths Winter Warmer kicks Sammy Smiths Pale Ale’s ass up AND down the block.

You left out Manny’s Pale Ale, one of the only pale ales I actually like. Saddly for me, it is only sold in the Seattle Area:

Due to your recommendation, I went out and bought some of this stuff. Thanks.

I just picked up some Gonzo Imperial porter by Flying Dog. Fucking delicious. I’ll admit that I don’t know all about the different characteristics of beers, but I do know that this one is good. I’ll add a link for more info.
