Web Resources for people interested in drinking good beer

My wife bought me this beer glass set for my birthday [although the 1L mug says Hofbrauhaus, which rocks because that 's were I got drunk before I got married in vegas]:

Edit: I noticed that the Celebrator glass seems to be full of something other than the dopplebock

So last night, I tried Avery’s “The Reverend”. I poured it into my 0.5L pseudo-tulip glass and it looked great. After my first drink I immediately noticed the strong alcohol aftertaste which prompted me to look at the ABV - 10%.

Honestly, it isn’t on the same level as Delerium Tremens or Nocturum, but since it is regional [read: easy to get] and half the price of D.T., I will probably try it again.

For the KC people, I’ve been told that the Lukas Liquor on 135th and State line has a great selection of beers, including North Coast’s PranQster.

Celebrator is so awesome.

Agreed. It was one of my favorites in Seattle and my favorite bar had it on tap:

But the last time I had it there it had a syrupy-taste. Then each time I bought it in bottles, I noticed the same thing.

Of course I am going to buy some more because I have the glass. Hmmm…tomorrow night.

Had two pints of PBR last night.
That’s right I skipped the Fat Tire, Rogue and Great White for pabst, with no intent of getting hammered.
Why?
I felt like it.
Happy hour (pbr = $1).
I just wanted something cold and light.

Fuck off beer snobs.

Monk beer FTW

PBR is the TKD of the beer world.

Honestly, economics should only be a factor in selecting beer until somebody hits their 20’s. After that, if you need to respect yourself a little more and discriminate. If you enjoy a mass-produced American lager, by all means enjoy. But if you do it for the economics, then you need to get a better job… or give handjobs to the wait staff for a couple of pints of Great White.

Blah blah blah.
Sometimes you just want something cold with a little alcohl in it and the focus is on things other than the output of the brewery your beer came from.

Adding insult to injury.
I was wearing a red seal ale t-shirt while drinking pbr.

Fuck that, we drink a lot of beer, I couldn’t really afford to drink if I didn’t drink cheap. Me and my friends burn a keg to two kegs a week.

Red Seal ale? I thought Red Seal was crappy chaw…

(yes I used to chew shut up)

Actually that is funny.

Since we are sharing, somtimes I do buy a sixer of natty-lite and drink it alone in my study with the lights out.

So I finally went to Lukas Superstore in Missouri and they had everything I wanted (except for Stone Porter). Enjoy:

Honestly, I do that pretty regularly. Again, I assumed (guess I was wrong) that someone would make a thread about the other side of beer drinking.

Ah, here we go:

It would be as interesting as a thread discussing dog-playing-poker paintings as a counterpoint to a thread about Picasso. No one cares (I hope) about the differences between coors light and miller light, and to be honest I do enjoy many of the beers you’ve listed. I’m just snippy towards the end of semesters.

137 year old beer apparently tastes good:

You can drink cheap and still drink good beer. We had a kegerator for beer pong and other drinking games, and then a good beer fridge for good stuff. Beer costs ran maybe 15 bucks a week, but we threw a lot of parties and our friends were always good about throwing in a few bucks for drinking our beer.

Incidentally, here’s a random website that might be useful to Brits or anyone in the London area:

So what about New Yorkers? Ive never heard of any of the beers you guys are talking about. Just whatever Bud or Coors makes. Thats pretty much it.

We do have Blue Point here though which is damn tasty. Whenever someone comes to the resteraunt and they arent from Long Island I bring them Blue Point wether they asked or not. Noone ever turns it away.

Brooklyn Brewery. Thomas Hooker. Dogfish Head. Brewery Ommegang. Besides the fact that you live in NYC and should be able to buy anything you want, those are all made in the area.

I live ON Long Island not IN NYC!

Ive never ever seen any of those brands. Maybe I have to go somewhere else besides 7-11 and the supermarket?

Might help.
