Weapons of Medieval Britain

Had a programme on last night talking about the bastard (war) sword.

Pretty good show and the website has some interesting info about individual weapons. Liked it particularly that they had pommel strikes, trips, throws and wrestling as part of the training.

What was the wrestling (and the throws) part like?

it was more interpretation of the sword fighting manual pics - looked like ‘normal wrestling’ or jujitsu (think the presenter was a JMA), some of the horse fighting was good - leaning back or forward to avoid slashes and grabbing the opponents sword for a disarm and then wrestling to the ground.

the bit I also liked was that they held the blade and did hooks with the sword hilt to the legs or overhead strikes like an axe

seemed you could mix it all up pretty well using all parts of the sword
