vitaly!

Yes he was the BETTER boxer, but you need to BEAT the champ to beat the champ and he did not do it.

hey ronin, did you prefer lewis when he was canadian, or after he became british

I knew Lewis, so I am a littel bias.
Preference is not relevant, but since you asked:
I do NOT like the champion Lewis is, he is to fickle in his title defenses, he wants to go down as a great champ but does NOT fight like a great champion, he slacks off and under estimates his opponents, sure he gets revenge, but all that proves is he was lazy to begin with.
He is a formidable fighter, who could have been one of the great ones.
He will be one of those “what if’s”, unfortunatly.

does ‘knew’ mean ‘trained with’?

I had the previlege of training in the same gym at one point, he was there for only 1 month before he left.
As you can imagine, we never sparred, as much as I would have loved to.

Living in Britain, you get to see all of Lewis’s fights. He’s a really good fighter, but certainly not great. You get the feeling he’s champ by default: i.e there’s not a realy maestro around, and he’s the easily best of the rest.

His first few professional fights (when he still had a proper Canadian accent) he was pretty awful and unconvincing. OK, we’re going back well over a decade now - but the smart money then was that he didn’t have the natural talent.

For a heavyweight, being able to hit fast and move IS talent !!!

His new training partners

Lennox WILL be ready for Vitaly next time…

The Monks got his back!

Lennox should donate some of his hair.

i thought this fight illustrated an important point.

take the centerline, klitschko’s straight right beat the sweeping hooks every time and his jab kept johnson from being able to set up his punches

that’s what i saw anyway

i used to agree with ronin69, but i think klitschko gained a lot more respect by dominating kirk johnson like that.

i also agree with kismasher, i don’t know what the hell johnson was thinking swinging for the fences like that. i guess he thought he could knock kiltschko out.
