You heard Rorion. They rang the bell and saved the kickboxer from further punishment.

YouTube- Takanori Gomi vs Ralph Gracie

YouTube- Mirko Cro Cop vs Kazuyuki Fujita

knee > double leg

This thread is funny as hell, who’s the spoilsport who put it here?

This didn’t seem as good as an example compared to the other vids. Fugita had dominant position. If the ref didnt stop it. Fugita could have won

Definitely love the Vids. Keep them coming!! Great thread guys!

I doubt that, with the bleeding and all. I think the ref new better.

striking + sprawl & Brawl > striking & BJJ

Making fun of Rorion isn’t going to erase the shame of doing karate.

Very True

Really? Watch Clay Guida Vs Deigo Sanchez again. I’ve seen a match on TUF I think it was the comebacks.

This white guy beat this big black guy, and he was bleeding all over the place. The ref didn’t stop it, and the white kid won!

Are you kidding me? I’m not familiar with organizations outside UFC, so lets just take a quick look at current UFC champions

  1. LW -BJ Penn (BJJ Black belt)
  2. WW- GSP (Ridiculous wrestler, and now BJJ black belt)
  3. MW - Anderson Silva (BJJ Black Belt)
  4. LHW - Machida (BJJ for 16+ years, not sure his rank though)
  5. HW- Brock Lesnar - Extra-ordinary wrestler

Fedor - Sambo
Chuck Liddell- Purple belt BJJ

So what was that again about Sprawl & brawl being better than grappling?

Also has the best take down defense of life, usually only goes to the ground once his guy is hurt to finish him.

Yeah, I’ve never seen him pull guard and work the triangle. I’ve only ever seen him armbar from the top.

Seriously? Yeah, he absolutely relies on his BJJ skills to win. No, you’re absolutely right.

He’s a black belt, but same thing as Anderson Silva. I mean come on.

…and not BJJ, right?

Did you even think about this before you wrote it?

Your post stated that “Sprawl and Brawl” + striking > Striking +BJJ

Sprawl and brawler usually implies that the practitioner does not have a strong grappling background. That he or she just learned the basic of sprawling and take down defence to defend against a grappler and keep the fight standing. My counter arguement was that the Top fighters in the world are accomplished grapplers in their own right. They didn’t just learn some sprawling, they actually learned true hard core grappling. That is also why I included Brock Lesnar, because he is a hardcore grappler first, striker second.

As for BJ Penn, he has world class BJJ, his take down defense normally does not include sprawling, oh and look at his 2 Matt Hughes fights, plus joe stephenson and Kenny Florian. As for he only goes to the ground when the opponent hurts him, what do you think that uses when he gets to the ground?

As for GSP, look at his BJ Penn fight, Matt Serra fight and his recent title defence. He was ripping through guards like a hot knife through butter. And that arm bar from the top, was probably learned in BJJ. (ya think?). If you knew anything about BJJ you would know that some people prefer to play the top game, while some people prefer the bottom game. GSP likes the top.

As for Anderson Silva, revisit his Travis Lutter fight and Dan Henderson fight.

As for Machida, what do you think kept him alive when he fought Ortiz and Sokuju

As for Brock, he’s a ground and pounder, vastly different from a sprawl and brawler

Did you not SEE the video?

The Gracie Jiu Jitsu Fighter won by TKO!

Frank Mir went for the double leg, Ian Freeman sprawled and beat up mir by using punches.

Watch the Jose Aldo Fight betwenn Mike Brown. Brown went for the double and Aldo defended it and ultimatly beat Brown by strikes.

I’m not saying striking is better then grappling, it just depends on the training. But when you see most of the WEC and UFC fights, it just seems that most fights ends by strikes.

Correct me if I’m wrong.

Yeah but I didn’t see him use any of his Jiu-Jitsu.
It looked like the BJJ guy was mostly using his striking skills. The kickboxer was actually going for double legs while the BJJ guy just defended againts them and used strikes.
