UFC ready to put down roots in Toronto

Ultimate Fighting Championship is paying a visit to Toronto next week for what it calls a “major announcement in Canada.” Pretty soon, the company could have a permanent home in the city.

The Las Vegas-based UFC is holding a news conference Tuesday at Rogers Centre, with president Dana White in attendance. Canadian fans yesterday immediately started dreaming of UFC making its long-awaited debut in Ontario, but provincial officials gave no indication of that happening. Instead, sources say, it appears UFC will open an office in Canada.

The move would give UFC established roots in an area of North America that the company desperately wants to promote.

Kind of a kick in the nuts to Montreal as an ‘established’ venue for MMA if they put the office in Toronto, but I suppose it will ‘help develop’ the Ontario relationship.

A lot of these big announcements seem to be things that are more exciting to Dana than they are to me…like action figure toys or video game news…
