UFC 119: Mir vs Cro-Cop. Lil' Nog, Sherk, Serra, Lytle, Mark Hunt. - Sep. 25, 2010

Mir has a decent striking game but will most likely take it to the ground, I mean why wouldn’t he.[/quote]

Because he wants to test his striking against a great striker? Because CC defends his take downs? Because he has a brain spaz? But you’re right, he should try to take him down. I think this one really depends on what sort of Mir/CC turns up. They’ve both been inconsistent.

Also, Mark Hunt! I didn’t even know he was still fighting but I want to see it. Does anyone know if he’ll be in prelims or PPV?

If you are talking about the Kongo and Overeem fights…having a 230+ guy use your cojones as Thai pads will do that to anybody.

The Dos Santos fight I’ll give you, that was not a great night to be Mirko fan…but everybody is allowed one bad night (right Shogun fans?).

I’m not trying to say that Mirko’s best years are ahead of him, but he didn’t look half bad in the Perosh and Barry fights (axe kick! axe kick!) and I think (hope?) he has enough left in the tank to beat Frank Mir, whose own game is not without certain flaws and exploitable areas.

As for Mir taking it to the ground…the only way I see this happening is if he pulls guard, and I think Mirko’s defense is solid enough to stall and brawl from there. Has mir ever taken ANYONE down and worked from the top position?

Cant wait to see mitrione fight again, love that nutjob.

What crack did the judges smoke?

Mir by KO? WTF? … pack your things people the world is about to implode.

Lil’ Nog got ROBBED.

lol

Goldie: So, who do you think wins this fight? [referring to a decision]
Rogan: I don’t know. …Not the fans.

Anyone saying the UFC still has the best fights, I am gonna spank him.

Like, with a dead fish, or something.

This was such a sad card.
It was bad from the start, but I mean, seriously.
Other than Dunham-Sherk, nothing was particularly exciting, or good for that matter.

I’ve been sick this WE, so I watched DREAM and UFC.

Sorry, but 45 $ for this? Never again.

Shinefights, War on the Mainland, Sharkfights…
All minor promotions, all shows that were aeons more exciting.

It’s not the matchmaking, it’s the complete lack of aggresiveness displayed.

This was boring…

ufc judging is officially dogshit

I was at the event. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The reason though was that the fights before the main card were a lot better. Sherk/Dunham and Lytle/Serra were both terrific fights on the main card. Everything else, not so much. At least Mir ended the fight with a killer KO, but it still didn’t make up for the lackluster fight in general. I still feel I got my money’s worth going to the event because the prelim fights were all pretty darn good. Also, Indy fighters go 3-0!

10-point must system

  • judging that heavily favors takedowns, even takedowns which quickly result in the bottom man escaping or not receiving any damage
  • being released after 2 or 3 losses

= shit.

I’m dissappointed my boy Doerkson lost but that was a sick guillotine by CB.

I kinda expected mir/crocop to be boring. Too much respect for each other.

Apparently The Underground troll won Mark Hunt. That explains his post fight comments.

To all the guys saying they won’t pay for another ufc because this one was crap: you can’t look at individual events, look at the year in total.

Every promotion has boring shows sometimes. It happens. On the other hand, some shows that look like snoozers on paper end up being fucking awesome (and sometimes free).

Most of the shows this year end up being pretty good IMHO. This one sucked, but it happens.

Am I the only one who didn’t give a flying fuck about this card?

This is the issue with UFC:

Fighters only get to stay in the UFC if they win and continue winning. If you get a losing streak, you get booted. So every fighter in the UFC is worried about losing, so they’ll all become more cautious. Since everyone is cautious, they’ll be less aggressive, ergo, fights will be more about being cautious and sucking.

The environment they’re in, make them less likely to pull the trigger. Fighters already fear injury and getting damaged and now they have to worry about their jobs? Bingo smingo.

This isn’t conjecture by the by, this is straight from a few horses mouths to me. This is the general air in the locker room mentality.

Fuck I’m mad about the Nogueira/Bader.
Seriously.
I could see the first round being Bader’s due to him being ontop on Nog and the nasty ground and pound at the start of it. After that though he wasn’t doing anything.
Most of his takedowns were stuffed, and he was outboxed in almost all the exchanges. How the fuck did the judges think that Bader took rounds 2 and 3?
