In the 4th Open Weight Tournament held by Kyokushin-kan two fights showcased the proposed re-introduction of punches aimed for the face.
The proposed new ruleset for kyokushin-kan’s tournaments seem a little unclear right now- I’m guessing it’s still in the process of being developed. Face punching and judo with light gloves and helmets, minus the face guards found in daido juku, are included in these fights. Here’s the skinny form kyokushin-kan.org-
I already stated here, and I don’t mind repeating ,that it would be good to add 2 divisions at KK tournaments. One full-contact and the other that allows face-punching.That way it satisfies everyone in the end.
I’m glad that Kancho Royama scanned my comments that I posted and from what he read he decided to make the change to his tournament.LOL!
I admit to liking more the former since it usually encourages more exciting moves that ordinarily you would not find at other types of tournaments.Such as a fighter being knockdown from an uppercut or from a fancy kick.
-One thing i would like to know is how fast were these fights at the last tournament?Did they go quick or last the 3 rounds that is mentioned in the article?
Apparently they were finished extremely quick. I think the plan is switch over completely to full-contact w/face punches. I’m wondering if they will change the format of the 100 man right now. Don’t have any evidence to say they will, but its something to think about.
Honestly I’d like Open Weight with the new rules run parallel with a bare-knuckle no face punches but with throws. Competing in both in one day would awesome.
They are in, and I’m stoked too. It’s as close to the old school we can get without losing all our teeth.
All I have to do now is learn what a face punch is…
awesome retort, sheep fucking thats a new one. going to refute that you said something stupid or just insult me? although its not like you would need to worry about saying something stupid when you have that flashing banner under your name.
no, what you said was you dont need to drill uppercuts because if someone leans over you can knee them. which is kind of confusing coming from someone who has boxing in their bio- i would assume you know the various reasons why a knee would not be a good substitute for an uppercut in many situations (like, someone who is taller than you). thats like saying you don’t need to drill hooks because a roundhouse can do the same job. just because an attack uses a similar trajectory doesn’t mean a damn thing.
