Tried and tested argument; or I don't get enough attention.

Hi, I’ve heard that tarditional martial arts such as karate and kung fu can’t use the fact they are so old and lasted so long asa sign of their effectiveness.

I’ve never understood why this is, can someone enlighten me?

(I’d just like to say also I’m not interested in anyone style bashing, I’ll come to my own conclusions as to what works and what doesn’t)

A few people around here completely discount TMA, but if you check out the TMA forums, you’ll see we have quite the TMA community here. It’s really about how you train more than what art you do. Omega is a legend on here, and he’s a kung fu guy. The difference between him and a lot of kung fu guys is that he trains his art in an alive manner. Also, you posted this in the wrong forum. Read the stickys before you post.

That’s a bunch of crap. Go to a Kyokushin karate school or a Sand Da academy. There are places where “Traditional” arts are trained “alive” (not crazy about that word, oh well). Yes, it’s easier to find good MMA, BJJ, Boxing, Judo or what have you but to write of karate and kung fu completely is foolish.

You are joking…? Also: ‘tarditional’…Freudian slip or…secret troll sign?

Assuming you are serious: Because it only proves they have lasted a long time ( most nowhere near as long a time as you may think).

Go introduce yourself in newbietown and read loads of threads, familiarize your self with the site.

Personally, I only view testing as evidence of effectiveness. Tales of testing in time immemorial are not testing, and, therefore, not proof of effectiveness. This applies to everything, not just martial arts.

can people edit my posts? i didn’t write “tarditional”, or “I don’t get enough attention”.

thank you all for your answers and sorry for posting in the wrong part

Threads get their titles changed when they are flushed into Trollshido. Posts are not edited, “tarditional” was probably a typo that sneaked past you.

EDIT: I just cheked, the typo is in your quote in my post, which I quoted directly from the OP. It was like that when I got here, then, and the same typo occurs in two other quotes. You missed it originally, that’s all.

EDIT2: Holy shit the font in the edit window sucks balls.

EDIT3: The forum software datestamps edited posts. See below.

EDIT4: No weird font now. Bizarre.

You did, but don’t worry about it, its not important.
Everyone draws their own conclusions its just what you draw them from that’s of interest…ie: coming to the conclusion that ‘traditional’ arts are effective because they have been around a long time.

Oh ok lol, anyway thanks very much to you both

and I checked out those beginner threads, they were very interesting, thanks!
