Well, since I’m on a youtube rampage as of late, and a TKD nut riding mood, I have scoured you tube, and taken out video to show TKd’s awesomeness. Don’t all thank me at once!
This video holds a special place in my heart. Apparently this one dude is a MMA fight and dons the Hogu for a TKD match. Don’t know much about him… but he get an ass whooping WTF style!!! (God this is awesome!)
An oldie but a goodie and a loss, but a decent showing until my TKD brother gets KTFO but a spinning back fist. He was just a spin hook away from the win! (Oh… and he hits the pavement more then a goodyear)
Gotta have a little Serkan Yilmaz love in a “TKD is SWEET” thread… who the fuck does a 540 in a K1 bout… huge miss… but still sweetness (Fuck I want this guys SBK)
Since defending actually takes time, it does not behoove the WTF fighter to keep p a guard or to block. That wastes time that they could be foot fencing and trying to score points. Since they are wearing chest protectors, there is no punching, and all face contact is illegal, there is less of a threat to their safety, so why not just kick a shitload and let the chips fall where they may.
From a purely sporting perspective, under the rules of WTF, it makes sense. From an open rules fight position or for SD, it is just stupid. Thus, we do not do it at my school. Guards, defensive movement, and lots of punching is the order of the day.
But those knockouts were pretty cool. Great athleticism and talent. Too bad that against a fighter with a guard, knows how to close and either punch or throw, and hits to the face and an unarmored body, they would be in serious trouble.
Its cool to see tkd in k1 and that turkish guy is an exciting fighter. Was the vid with the karate vs. judo a tkd guy or a japanease karate styleist.(not that it matters)just looked more like kyokoshin to me.
I put a lot of years into TKD and would like nothing more than to see it start gaining some respect, being successful in K1 would be a good start. I was glad to see a TKD guy winning some K1 fights even if they were against less than stellar opponents. I think in the first fight Park clearly outmatched his opponent because of his size and his opponent’s lack of skill. In the second fight it looked like Park actually took some good shots without buckling but a lot of those shots could have been avoided if he kept his hands up.
Unfortunately IMO if Park Yong Soo gets matched up with any of the quality K1 guys he is going to get his ass kicked. All TKD practioners need to start training with their hands up!!
I think the K1 format is fairly well suited for TKD fighters once they improve on their boxing. Park was quick to clinch in close range and due to his size he was able to keep his opponents from working an attack out of the clinch until the ref stepped in to separate them. Do you know if Park will be on the next ASIA GP card for 2007?
About Park… I have no idea. These videos are actually the first I’ve seen of him. A monster of a man, but he defiatly could use some boxing defence and continue to let his kicks do the talking…
