Thumb in the Ass, Thumb in the Throat

A bareknuckle mma rules sparring bout.

Perhaps this is just me but I occasionally use the throat grab, when sparring MMA rules.

Nobody has ever tapped to it and I have never been submitted with it, this is due to the crappyness of the move.

In fact, it leaves you very open for being swept, KaH should have capitalized on Kiev’s error rather than getting all “HOLY FUCK, HE’S FIGHTING DIRTY, THERE’S NOTHING I CAN DO” and verbally tapping out. It could even have been used as a reminder to the disillisioned TMA folks that their deadly throat grabs are a bad idea. Instead, we get the typical “Oh believe me, if I had wanted to I could have had you crying for your mother in three seconds, I just didn’t want to” answer.

If it was a competition, I would agree. It was not.

You’re being a fucking drama queen Grant. No MMA organization I know of allows throat grabs, and KaH actively trains for MMA competition.

When it became apparent that this kid wasn’t participating under the rules he agreed to, KaH was an adult and stopped it before he would have had to respond with equal force.

As far as the gloves go, like I said, KaH had no idea who Kiev was or anything about his motivation/agenda. And since gloves are for protecting your own hand and not your opponent’s face, it wasn’t a big deal.

Again, stop trying to stir shit up. You weren’t there.

What is more important is that

A) It’s legal.
B) Nobody taps/dies from it.
C) It’s used as a setup a much higher percentage move.

I think it was represented rather well at the throwdown, I believe KaH was in control of the fight, he appeared to be much more skilfull than Kiev and would have won 99 times out of 100, it just so happened that he was legitimately beaten at the throwdown. Big deal, let it go.

No, it’s not.

And that’s why your argument is fucking stupid.

Surely removing the kids hand from his throat and politely informing him that he wasn’t comfortable with using moves like this would be the best and most logical course of action.

You weren’t there.

True.

There are no “winners” in friendly sparring matches. I think that’s where you are confused.

In ADCC, it was legal.

Also, may I add that nobody died/imploded from using it.

ADCC isn’t an MMA competition, dipshit.

In (most) sparring, especially at throwdowns, you have the goal of tapping the other guy out. You are using the same principles as you would use in competition. It means you can experiment a little more.

I also believe that the throat grab is a ludicrous move due to its crapness.

So in a pure grappling environment, you would be okay with using throat grabs, but when things like knee’s, elbows and other strikes are added, it’s not only not illegal but truly shocking when somebody tries it?

It’s not winning to tap someone out. Winning implies a competition. Sparring is not competition. If the throwdown was competition, KAH could’ve just killed kiev and be done with it. The problem here is that Kiev wanted to “win” this sparring match, thus he played dirty.

You’re being purposefully obtuse, and it’s starting to piss me off kid.

“MMA Rules” were what they agreed on. Grabbing/Poking at the throat is illegal under MMA rules. Doing so is an escalation from friendly sparring, to actual fight.

Do you get it now?

If you and I agreed to spar under Muay Thai rules and I snapped your head down and secured a guillotine choke, it would be the exact same thing. I could play ignorant and claim that I didn’t know choking was illegal in Muay Thai, but that wouldn’t change the fact that I took it from a friendly sparring match, to trying to fuck you up.

Agreed.

KaH did not want to be knocked out or tapped, neither did Kiev. This is what makes it sparring. KaH did not make it entirely clear what he meant by MMA rules and it would be very easy for Kiev to be confused.

I don’t know why everybody is freaking out over a throat grab. It’s a crappy, even comical move to pull.

Yep, it’s like asking to spar with someone using boxing rules, then kicking the other guy in the nuts.

Jamming my thumb in your ass through your shorts is a crappy, even comical move to pull, but I guarantee if I did it to you when we were sparring you’d ask for me to be pulled off you pretty damn quick too.

Are we all in agreeance that being 18 years old doesn’t make you a kid?

What is more important is how I would react to that. I would have tapped out and politely explained that a guillotine choke is not legal in Muay Thai rules. After that, we could have carried on and avoided a e-shitstorm.

Fucking ridiculous analogy. Anyway, I’d still talk to you afterwards to find out if you were being a dick purposefully or if you misunderstood something.

No… kid. Now STFU, the grownups are having a discussion, junior.

What is more important is how I would react to that.

I’d probably get angry and hurt the kid.
