All schools except judo that has belts, are by degree fraud(so thats most of them).
anybody can teach themselves viable self defense skills (close combat) in days weeks and months (not years) to a high degree,as it is a physical skill-not rocket science .
lineage means nothing otherwise lets all be taught by mike tyson and become world champion(not going to happen).
names of martial arts are just that ,its up to you to sift through the bullshit and find what works for you e.g height ,weight ,strenght ect.
Hey,
I’m in a similar geo location to you, and in the same spot - looking for a school. I trained previously in Karate and I’m looking for a good school in the Redmond/Bellevue area. I’ve visited a few schools so far. The one that struck me as the strangest was Academy of Kempo Martial Arts. http://www.kungfutemple.com/
I asked to observe a class and the black belt who was trying to sell me said they don’t allow outsiders to observe. She then said it could make some students uncomfortable. While I understand some level of discomfort for beginning students, I thought this response was really lame. You’ve got to get comfortable doing your techniques in front of people at some point!
Let me know if you want to share thoughts via email on the local schools.
These guys are in your area
Kyokushin Karate!!!

Harharhar
Or maybe you’d rather train with this guy?

You see its my opinion that your 300 pound ass should rethink your whole training for the “art” philosophy. One of these schools will teach you the art of of being a fat tool, and one will teach you the art of genuine ass kicking. Can you guess which one is which?
Edit: Of course if you’re 300 pounds and all muscle, I respectfully (and fearfully) retract my previous statement, and encourage you to do capoiera cause its freaking cool.
Beware the fat nunchaku wielding black belts!
hahaha, too much good stuff…
Really now? I think that the vast majority of readership on this website would strongly disagree. Especially those of us who train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Why don’t you find a local BJJ purple belt and tell him how you feel about him?
OK, and why don’t you find a real Karate guy (I hope you know what Im talking about), from any karate school (kyokushinkai, shito ryu… etc) and tell him that karate just sucks… I think that many people that post in this site sometimes reveals their ignorance in martial arts. In my opinion, in a general way, there are not good or bad martial arts, but good or bad martial artist. I have a lot of friends from Brazil (here in Spain there are a lot of brazilians), few of then practice capoeira… one of then is very very dangerous. I have also friends that practice BJJ and not of all then are killing machings. I practice karate for 13 years… I love kumite (fighting), and i know that this martial art if it is well trained and the martial artist has endurance it can be really dangerous. In my opinion most of the discussions about styles and all of that are useless and reveals the ignorance of the people.
This isn’t a serious thread, and my post wasn’t a serious post. It’s pretty clear that I picked out the fattest dumbest looking karate blackbelts in his area to post pictures of, because its damn funny:XXsmoker: Also to maybe insight a little anger among the Kyokushin crowd here that those fat retards have blackbelts in the first place! This is mabs after all…
And they’re all “arts” whether you’re this guy:wrestlerb these guys:boxing: or this loser:ninjadanc or this smooth pimp*:waoya
*assuming that’s a BJJ blackbelt:5propelle
OK, I see your point. And yes… those fat black belts are so funny. (the girl the most funny)
How is this thread in MABS?
It has no discernable point, was necro’d, disses Kyokushin (because they do forms), and poops on judo because they…um…throw people?
Hell, every style with a belt got a thumbs down…and every MABS thread that checked lineage has been summarily rejected.
Wow. Just wow. Monkeys on keyboards.
