Not terrible like Bulliet but it did have a bad after taste not one I’ll be going backing to.
Had this
Jack Daniels taste like cough syrup does it get better if I pay more?
If you buy something better than JD? Sure. I’m not a big fan of anything from that distillery, personally.
I mean the Jack Daniels distillery I know they have higher priced items
I mean the Jack Daniels distillery I know they have higher priced items
I don’t really love any of JD’s offerings, personally. I wouldn’t spend a lot of money looking to find one I liked unless you don’t have access to other whiskies.

Barrel Select from these guys tasted better to me but I’ve gotten used to it. Has a more bitter taste and after taste than Barrel Select but still a nice punch and smooth in it’s own regards.
Bulleit makes a pretty solid bourbon and rye … for the price points anyway. I also really enjoy Angel’s Envy both the rye and straight bourbon. The Willett Pot Still Reserve is pretty good too.
edit
Oh and I also found the corpse of an Macallen 18 year Sherry Cask Scotch Whiskey I nursed forever. I really miss sipping on that .
Taste good and good after taste and really enjoyed how it snuck up on me. I would’ve expected 94 proof to knock me on my butt in a less subtle way.

It was okay decent taste and after taste but didn’t knock my socks off. I’m guessing some of the more expensive offerings will be better.
Bought a bottle of this for $20.
Aged three months in the cask. Maybe it’ll just sit on a shelf.
cask aged three months … from Oklahoma … “Bourbon” … I don’t know what to say except caution.

LOL, three months in the cask is a step up.

Still lamenting the demise of my previous favorite go to - Elijah Craig 18.
For a good read on time in the barrel …

And probably hard to find, since the craze for limited edition bourbon has gotten waaaay out of hand.
Been drinking a local lately, that is just spectacular. It’s Oola, lots of caramel, fairly full flavored. I’d tried it and liked it awhile back, but it was running about $50 a bottle, which is a bit above my normal price point. Luckily, local Trader Joe’s started carrying it for around $34, and it is well worth it at that price.

I is sad puppy and blame the Chinese for a good portion of the price increase of bourbon and scotch over past years ):
I is sad puppy and blame the Chinese for a good portion of the price increase of bourbon and scotch over past years ):
Unfortunately, the bourbon boom (especially for the super premium limited edition stuff) in America is more responsible for price increases and empty shelves than Chinese consumption. Especially with the recent anti-corruption austerity measures. Though it would probably be fair to cast some of the blame on the Japanese and European markets.

Good , those are my two favorite countries/markets to blame for most things. Whether or not it’s their fault.
I can’t afford it but I am picking up a rye today … maybe an Irish Whiskey. I haven’t decided yet.
Ended up settling for a 1.75 liter Bulliet Rye for the charmingly mislabeled price of 26.68 American Freedom Dollars.
Gave George Dickel Rye a try and it was pretty good once I got used to it. Kicked hard at over 94 proof and gave a nice burn going down. Taste and aftertaste were fine going down.

It is fairly decent. As you mentioned it has some serious bite and burn … not my favorite rye when: neat, chilled or over ice
But if you are adding it to coffee. Dickel Rye will shine in stout cup of Ethiopian medium roast with a dash or two of heavy cream or half and half.
