The Reality and truth in the martial arts. GEEEEEEEZE you kids....

Well I signed up for this forum and I have been looking around at some posts. The first thing I was stuck by is that a lot of people do not have any idea what they are talking about. They are not objective and are not in reality. First off. On Bruce Lee. I really do not think it is a wise idea to knock him. The bottom line is that you guys have no idea ultimately whether he was any good or not. I never met the man but I have taken the time to ask people who would be in the know what their opinion was of him. One person was Ed Parker. ( and if you don’t know who thet is you must still be in diapers). Well I asked Parker about Lee and his response was. That Lee was “one in a billion ability wise”. Then I asked Parker about Lee’s skills. Parker told me that Lee was a phenomenal martial artist. He also said that while Lee did not really excecute any moves like a master of a given style he did have an incredible ability to “copycat” other style’s moves. He could within a short time of learning a movement perform that movement at a very high skill level. Not as high as a “master” of the given style but close.

Also Parker would have never ever given Lee the exposure and backing he did at the Longbeach demo if Lee was not very excellent. And finally Joe Lewis would in no way write a book on Lee and his methods if Lee was not excellent. So the deal is that objectfully Lee was excellent.

lastly on Lee. I think it is very unwise to draw attention to possible flaws in the public eye. While many martial artists are flakes Lee was not. You kids should understand that if it was not for him it is very unlikely that you would be in a martial arts school at all. Ed Parker knew damn well that Lee could popularise the arts. That is why he used him. So ultimately Ed Parker is the true one responsible for the status of the arts today because he was bright enough to spot Lee.

I find a lot of your actions very ignorant and very disrespectful. Bruce Lee did nothing but good for the image of the martial arts. When new kids start investagating the martial arts they usually come upon Bruce Lee. It is extremely unwise to be critical of Lee.

Finally, from every thing I have heard from people who knew him Lee would kick most of you guys in the butts and make you cry in about 3 seconds. He was talanted and extremely dedicated and should not be knocked. It is very disrespectful. And like the Bible says you should look at your own problems before looking at the problems of others. From my perspective I see most of you guys as brawlers. You may think you are tough but you may have no idea what tough is. I was in this before there was any safety equiptment or almost any rules. So before you go slammen lee you should realize that you may not exactly know what tough is.

And no I am not some Bruce Lee freak with picture of him on the wall. I do not even think about the man. But I do know the true facts and a little about the business dynamics of the arts. You should just let Bruce Lee rest and only say nice things about him.

I nominate next month to be Ed Parker sucks month.

QFT!!!

Seconded.

To the OP:
You’re not going to last long around here without developing a few things.

so, your post amounts to an appeal to authority fallacy… except the authority is ed parker.

you’re… new here, aren’t you.

Wow, now I know the errors of my way, BL the great…

Seconded, although it would be simpler to call it ‘Ke?po sucks’ month.

Lobsang, you are going to be pretty thorougly ridiculed for your post.

If you want to understand why, then look at what “sucked” last month.

Perhaps you should practice what you preach?

Hey, Lob…

You suck. Your insults suck (“kids”) Your sense of morality sucks (“disrespectful”). And your sense of humor sucks (“X sucks month” is a humorous look at the subject). …Much like Bruce Lee, who also sucks.

It is not a question about whether Kenpo or Lee sucks it is a question of the marketing of the martial arts. And being objective.

No, it isn’t.

I would advise relaxing a bit.

cum grano salis

learn it.

The Duff gracefully flying scissor kicks this thread.

Everybody wants to have a piece of BL on their resume. Parker (before he died), Lewis, and even Jhoon Rhee (TKD) says he trained with BL. It’s to their advantage to pump BL up.

Lobsang,

Prove you knew Ed Parker.
