The history Of Tang Soo Do

wait kang uk lee? there are soo many lee’s…

You resurrected this thread to say that?

Dude, I should kick you in the face just on principle.

I’ll kick him again for not even reading the post correctly:

A lot of what GM Hwang Kee spoke of, concerning his studies, can be verified. However, what he did leave out in his version of history is the fact that he studied under GM Lee, Won-kuk of the Chung Do Kwan at one time. It was GM Lee who allowed him to use the name Tang Soo Do, as it was Lee’s school name first, prior to changing. Soo Bahk Do was something to make it more “Korean” when the big trend to nationalize everything came about.

WON KUK LEE. ZOMG.

Stupid Koreans.

How the fuck do they decide their names? By pulling the silverware out of the drawer and dropping it on the floor?

“Honey, our baby’s name will be Ching Chong Chang!”

Heh.

And I just know someone is going to think I was being completely serious about that…

Actually, Tang Soo Do is just the pronounciation of the occupiers martial art karate. Same hanja different pronounciation. So anyone who did karate did Tang Soo Do… The Kwans were the style. Soo Bahk Do, as you said, was to sound more korean AND allowed a copyright , unlike Tang Soo Do.

Duh.:laughing4

Same for JWLuiza.

aww i cant see the cartoon.

He’s one of our buddies from Warrior-Scholar, though. Doesn’t that give him a “avoid Aus’s kick in the face” card?

Thank you Captain Obvious…your new cape and secret decoder ring are in the mail.

Since you have departed all of your wisdom on this subject, could you please find an even older thread to ressurect?
Say something from 2003?

Oh I didn’t realize. I notice seanyseanybean is here too. I guess both of them can have that card. Man, I’ve been out of the forum game for too long.

Actually the Kwans were not the style, they were the names of the school. No one in the 50’s and 60’s went around saying I study Jidokwan. They would say there were from the Jidokwan or the Chungdokwan or Ohdokwan (kwan=school) They studied kong soo do, yudo, kumdo. The style name of Tang Soo Do was used with Lee, Won-kuk who disposed of it and allowed Whang Ki to use it for his Moo Duk Kwan school.

As a Tang Soo Do practitioner, I have only this to say to you!!..

LMFAO!!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Apparently this cartoon is unnacceptable over at www.karateforums.com -they delete it presumably it might hurt some TSD’ers who don’t like their history…

As a former TSD practitioner and martial art history geek, I applaud you. Nice work. Screw karateforums.com. I am over there from time to time and all they want is there spoon fed crap.

An excellent cartoon my dear fellow!! I’ve not got anything against the art, hell i’ve been doing it for nearly 5 years. However I have to applaud you on this one. When is the wing chun one coming out, and if it has already, post the link. Is there somewhere where you have all of these in one place?

Tom

I’ll have to agree with this. Even I can’t swallow the bullshido.
