In what competition is it illegal to crush the trachea? It’s perfectly legal in, for example, Judo, BJJ, ADCC, MMA. The high-elbow guillotine is a trachea crush first and foremost.
I don’t see what the big deal is, I crush tracheas all the time, never had a problem.

It got explained to me that when you tried a submission and the ref ( a BJJ black belt) would see that you had an “unstable” position where if you would lose that position there would be a substantial change on wounding your opponent, the fight would get restarted.
It was only enforced in the white belt division.

yes, it can be said that it all depended from the judgement of the ref, but the rule was there for the white belts division.
I don’t think that it’s codified in the IBJJF ruleset, but it was enforced at the competitions in the BeNeLux. It were the same judges in the three countries (combined, they are is still the size of a stamp on world level).
Why it was there? I really don’t know (maybe some serious injuries in the beginning?) and I really didn’t care.
The rule made me improve getting a stable position in a fight, before I even tried a submission.

Rules are there for a reason, it can be that you don’t get the reason or don’t think that they are justified, but once they are there you just play the game at your best in that certain ruleset.

Let’s see, I’ve two moderators and two long time European members in this cull. All of you have been here entirely too long to come into my e-house and take a big shit right in the middle of the floor.

I decree that you are all douchebags.

You can either start following the rules of my house, or I will infract you all into oblivion.

Is this where we register as douchebags? I haven’t got the hair to gel, i don’t tan nor do i work on my physique, but I say “bro” a shitload and I once owned some tapout clothing. Do I qualify?

I once shouted “Bingo Wings!” repeatedly at a portly burlesque dancer after a few drinks. She seemed very pleasant tbf, which made me look even more like a prick.

Do I qualify for the douchebag tag pls?

I wear glasses and funny t-shirts. The thread title called out to me like the friggin horn of Helm Hammerhand n’ shit.

Thought so, too.

Here I am.

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN YOU.

I do not know what usual douchebag criteria are, though.
Can I still join?

You’re European, need you ask? :]

Raaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Uhm… Thanks.

Actually, when I phantasize about being an UFC fighter,
I usually picture myself mpre as a Shogun Rua-like character.

Or, as the Hulk.

When I fantasize about you being a UFC fighter, it still comes out like this guy. Can’t suspend that much disbelief. :]

Actually, it means you can defend yourself.
…then you are crushing his trachea, which is illegal in competitions,
Sorry, what?
Only against people who can’t grapple, wrestle or strike, Matt.

Self-defense is about dealing with untrained people. If you’re training to defend yourself against other martial artists, the term you’re looking for is not ‘Self-defense’ but ‘MMA’.

Dude, don’t be me in the TRAINING FORUM. If this was YMAS I’d leave you alone, but the guy is asking about something in a classroom environment. So, you “Self Defense” comment is you trying to play semantic games and hinder their proper advice.

In other words you are being disagreeable because he is getting picked on. Yes, you do it quite a bit. Don’t jump on them because I am the asshole.
