I was inspired by Nieldo’s thread on Whiskey. Except I don’t really drink whiskey. Tequila is my lover.
Favourites? Different kinds, nice choices for mixing?
There is a difference between good tequila and cheap exported shit (Cuervo).
For the cheap stuff I like El Jimador. It’s got an ok after taste, same price as Cuervo, but many times better than Jose, or that Souza shit. If you really want BAD tequila try Olmeca. That stuff is rough.
I mix the cheap stuff with Orange Juice. Very nice, can get extremely drunk with practically no hang over.
Better stuff? I like Herradura gold. It has a very nice after taste, almost smokey. Mixing this with anything is a crime. Good stuff needs to be done in shots.
First person to make a worm reference gets neg rep. And if you have to ask why, well that’s why you deserve it.
I guess you could say that. I’ve had some superb tequila that I can’t remember the name of because some friends of mine brought it back from their spring break trip to Mexico. But damn, it was delicious. I don’t think I’ve ever had such an experience with hard liquor.
Anyway, what’s with all the hating on Cuervo?
When I go to bars and they have that shit, sometimes I like to take a shot of Cuervo, and chase it with a Corona (with a lime stuck in the bottle neck of course). It makes me feel all mexican and shit.
Cuervo’s “Reserva de la Familia” can be very appealing, but if you aren’t much for Tequila or Brandy for that matter it will be wasted on you. If you like their basic Tequila, which is really more of a “Tequila-themed” spirit, Reserva will probably not be what you are looking for.
Patron can be great, but I keep waiting for the day they pull an Absolute and end up wrecking their product to keep up with demand.
Unless you’re spending $50-100/bottle (a la the Patron i posted earlier) you don’t want to taste it. that’s why you do tequila shots. the piece of citrusy fruit and salt is for girls though.
However, Having Jose Cuervo ‘hard boiled’ is pretty decent. I’m going to have another one right now.
