One way to lessen the pain of taking a strike is to exert forward pressure. Blocking and going backwards does not really help you out that much at all. Its going to hurt to some extent if you take the stike but if your moving forward it will take away from some of the initial shock

well you should not be on ypur tippy toes. You want to be be the balls of your feet and your heels only off the ground by a tiny bit. I have been told that it is a bad idea to be on the balls of your feet due to being less balanced, but with the way real grapplers attempt takedowns It (but dont quote me) should not matter much.
Takedowns tend to involve upseting the persons center of gravity so unless your great with takedown defenses your going down no matter how rigid and balanced your stance is
