I’ve been lurking for a while. I know it’s best to use this forum to debate “what if” arguments on clashing styles. I’ve noticed most people here doubt the effectiveness of traditional chinese martial arts. This is my first post so here goes.
Taijiquan, which I will refer to from here on out as “Tai Chi” for simplicity, has the tools to overcome BJJ. Tai Chi generates power internally. I do not believe in “chi” in the classical sense. I believe in body structure. Power is generated from your middle which is your center of gravity. It has more to do with physics than “chi”. Power is generated from you feet planted on the ground.
BJJ has no power generation as it is a grappling art. Tai Chi can be applied to both grappling and striking. It flows and you nuetralize their attacks. If someone tries to take you down, you make yourself heavy. If someone is trying to push you back, you redirect their movement. Commonly misunderstood by Tai Chi practitioners is that it is ok to use force with tai chi. It is ok if it feels “hard”.
BJJ is a great art for grappling, and even better for learnign how to fight in a short amount of time. Taijiquan offers a more complex system that takes long to master, but offers greater rewards in the end.
He is referring to the little known Tai Chi weapon known as the “Pipe Wrench”.
Either that, or the Jaws of Life, which can be used to remove pesky grapplers that have crushed you into a small yet hideous ball of pain.
That explains why BJJ guys always beat the shit out of TC people.
The BJJ guy is using his Chi to make himself stronger as the TC guy uses his Chi to make himself heavier.
Interesting scientific fact- Chi determines the laws of physics.
OK, ergo, grappling arts have no power because they are ground based fighting systems and the power to defend/deflect attacks comes from a good center of gravity anchord by planting your feet firmly on the ground.
Assuming your assertion is correct, i.e., that Tai Chi is only effective as a stand-up art, because a Tai Chi practitioners power/effectiveness is based on having his/her feet firmly plant on the ground, then how does the Tai Chi’tard handle himself when he is taken down?
Oh wait…
because…
So, if a grappler shoots in, the Tai Chi guy goes limp? or does he focus his “chi” and turn into a 4 ton statute. Going limp and playing dead sounds like the best opption for the Tai Chi’er who is about to get fubarred and powned.
Like what? being unconscious after going limp when taken down by a BJJ’er and RNCed…
There is a fucking influx of trolls creating threads down here. It’s a mad house… A MAD HOUSE I TELL YA!!!
:tongue6: :tongue6: :tongue6: :tongue6: :tongue6:
I don’t deny the effectiveness of BJJ. I even realize most Tai Chi practitioners would lose. But look at this. Many tai chi guys are doing it for health reasons, not for fighting. Of all the tai chi people out there only 1% are seriously studying the art to learn to fight. Of that 1% only a small fraction will be able to discover and apply the true meanins of tai chi in a fight. But if you find one of those rare guys… you don’t want to mess with them.
And tai chi has defeated BJJ before. Even at some of the bullshido throwdowns.
I believe several of you have already lost to taijiquan so please keep an open mind before you dismiss an entire art. Especially one with a huge magnitude of potential combat applications such as taijiquan.
