Strategic help?

If you are going to compete in kickboxing, maybe you want to be training in kickboxing not Total-Krap-Doh?

I generally tell people that I’m a kickboxer since not too many people know what muay thai is and to those that think they do, I hate explaining to them that Ong Bak isn’t really muay thai.

I don’t see any shame in being associated with kickboxing even if Full Contact is a stupid ruleset.

Even worse is when people associate kickboxing with “kickboxing aerobics”

Keep your hands up, and don’t drop them when you kick. Be evasive so that they can’t tee off on your head with punches. Move your head and body a lot. Learn how to punch. Learn how to check kicks. Learn how to leg kick.

That should be a step in the right direction.

Don’t do WTF TKD.

Learn to kickbox.

If you REALLY wanna win, skip all the kickboxing crap and take muay thai.

hey guys, i play soccer but plan on competing in the rugby tri nations. anything i should know?

A bunch of shitty threads in a short amount of time: Check.

TKD: Check.

You have to be Janggoon.

I already outed him and he admitted it.

asks about random martial arts and how they would compliment his TKD training: Check

Whines about people h8ting on TKD: Check.

Fills my PM box up and IMs me: Check.

I must be getting lazy in my old age. Usually I catch him within 10 posts.

With all these injuries lately, I’ve been spending a fuckton of time on here and I STILL missed him. Guess this old dog needs to be put down, eh?

I was pretty sure it was him as soon as he started making threads. He keeps coming back with the same tard ass posting style and making the same tard ass posts that everyone gave him shit for in the first place. I can only assume he does it on purpose to annoy people.

So TKDer, when is this fight going to happen?
How far away it is determines what training (if any) you should do.

You know what?

When is this fight going on? What are your height and weight and that of your opponent? Why are you in a cross art match if you don’t know how to not get killed in one?

Answer these questions and we’ll talk.

As a TKDer who sometimes faces kickboxers I’ll give you what little information could help you.

  1. Keep your hands up, you’re used to getting kicked in the head, it takes more time for a kick to travel to your face then a hand to.

  2. cut that bouncing shit, because if you get caught with anything remotely power shot in mid bounce, you’re gonna get KTFO.

  3. Watch your angles, as a TKD practitioner, you’re probably not used to being hit from a variety of angles, if the opponant has learned anything about angles, you need to watch them.

  4. A kickboxing match is not point sparring, don’t throw a single punch or kick and then stop when they land, you need to learn combinations, and to continue hitting after you’ve hit once. following through with something is a big deal, don’t expect to knock someone out with one hit.

  5. Stance is a big issue, that sideways stance opens a good clinch up from my experience, and as someone who is much more adjusted to legs (i’m assuming if you’re wtf) you really don’t want to clinch too much especially in a match with no knees or elbows.

just a few basic tips, people can critisize as they like ,

As a TKDer that trains MT, I’d have to say…

MT is significantly harder if you do WTF TKD. Mainly because my coach gave me so much shit about being a TKDer every time I half-assed something or didn’t do a technique properly.

Learn to deal with a LOT of push kicks. Either get tougher, or learn to parry them, or both, because you’ll get caught out A LOT by push kicks.

Learn to check leg kicks the proper way. This means, actually get a MT or kickboxing coach to show you, which pretty much brings us back to the “if you want to kickbox, learn kickboxing” concept.

Regular-ass TKD has no answer for a kickboxing match. The only benefits you’ll even get are some moderate flexibility and balance issues. I’m a fairly good head-kicker and I managed to get a few head kicks on my sparring partners in MT, but pretty much got fucked up by everybody in the punching and clinch ranges.

This is great advice. You might think it’s fairly obvious, but it bears repeating over and over and over again.

His match is FC, so he at least won’t have to deal with leg kicks. He’ll almost certainly get his face boxed inside out, however.

Hasn’t he been talking about this match for like…decades?
