probably get to see Faber v. Curran soon. Curran’s some pretty damn good jiu-jitsu. I"m really interested to see that.
Curran will get pwned. I am not trying to nutride on Faber, but his position plays are too good for most of these guys. He swings out of dominant positions when good BJJ guys give him even an inch too much space, or strikers get caught sleeping. (See v. Farrar, Cruz, Pearson, or the 3 rounder early in his career against Hiroyuki Abe). I mean, mix the BJJ he’s getting from Werneck and the wrestling he’s always had, and he can hold down and ride out most guys quite easily.
That said, I’d like to see Cub or Miller go up against Faber. I think Cub narrowly beat out Miller, in all reality, but he has definitely earned the right to take on Faber. And either of those matchups (Faber v. Miller, or Faber v. Swanson) would be very telling of Faber’s total game. I like Miller, personally, as he has great bottom position sweep attempts and a “smothering” ability in the fights I’ve seen.
PS: Jens needs to work on his game. Lay’n’Pray defense doesn’t cut it anymore. He really should go work with Charuto and BJ. It would do him some good.
Curran has great BJJ and boxing, but he admits that his weakness is wrestling. That could be a serious problem against Faber.
Shit, Micah Miller has some out-of-this-world jits skills. Although Cub was able to smother and control even though Micah tried to stay active throughout.
I’m not sure either would be able to bring the full package like Faber does…but, punches chance and all, you never know.
I think Micah needs to work on his leg and foot subs, personally. When he had reverse guard on Cub, I kept yelling “Go for the ankle lock! Go for the ankle lock!” I never wished someone had trained with either Shamrock or Paulson more than at that time. But yah, he throws up crazy guard attempts, reverse triangles, stuff you don’t see alot of BJJ guys going for in MMA.
Well it’s just as well that Pulver gets to fight Faber. No way is the WEC coughing up the millions for Kid Yamamoto (who Faber seems to call out every time he’s on TV)
I’m not moving to hawaii because BJ is just “good”… BJ is a freak and unlike anyone I have ever trained with or encountered.
What kind of attitude does he train with?
Is he really really serious or do they laugh and stuff?

I was hoping you might chime in since you have been around both of them. And lest you think I am some armchair warrior criticizing the guys who put it on the line for real, I have much respect for Jens. Just was suprised how completely one sided the fight seemed.
Indeed. I respect any of the guys good enough to garner a deal in UFC, WEC, PRIDE< anywhere. I go into the Vale Tudo gym everyday to push myself to compete, and I know how hard it is for me, let alone someone at that level of competition. I respect Jens for what he does.
I just think Penn does it better. And grats to J Lau, too. I’ll thoroughly enjoy watching him in the future, as much as I did watching him on my DVR’ed eps of TUF.
apparently, jens hurt his knee, and may be out for a while.
Joking around, but serious about training. We would be doing rounds and its all business during the round, but in between its laughing and busting balls.
That was actually something I asked about on one of the TUF threads. The show always portrayed the Pulver team training as more grueling and the Penn trainings as more subdued and by comparison somewhat lazy.
I’m guessing this was due to editing?
One of my favorite old school fighters, Jens is doing what I think might be his last walk to the cage. Some guy’s making a movie about it, and Jens’ life in general.
