Well … I can read too! I thought … Can I blame the failure on the red text and then on the headshot on the other page?
Both were very hard to look at…
I am sure it is a different West Wind and the similarities just … you know… whatever. A “Hopefully no one will notice the made up school of a name I picked almost randomly is a massive long running joke” kinda thing.
The headshots are - well - I need to study them, when I’m in the mood to get totally creeped out. They look at least poorly 'shopped, if not completely CG.

Which headshots? The ones from West Winds or is there another site with head shots.
Scratch that, was thinking of a different MABS case (which is not currently logged, iirc).
There is just one face shot on any commercial/marketing material connected. I mean I just glanced over it over briefly but I didn’t see anything else connected to this guys marketing.
He doesn’t appear to be a lean fighting machine was my point earlier.
So I was noodling around on facebook, and Corey Boren now has a “Korean Jonsu Hapkido” emblem/flag on his page as a cover photo (updated may 6, 2018).
No need to bother verifying Hapkido ranks.
Verifying Hapkido ranks is almost always a waste of time.
Respectfully, I am making a serious practical point.
Hapkido ranks are routinely awarded to Tae Kwon Do black belts and Yudo / Korean Judo players as a cross rank, as a matter of association joining.
And then those folks then also award Hapkido ranks.
This makes verifying Hapkido rank a futile and fruitless endeavor because the association de facto cross ranking approaches a scale that challenges for status as the norm.

Yeah, I know there’s a lot of handshake deals and pay-to-play and cross ranking and shit like that. We all know it, it’s well covered, elsewhere. Has nothing to do with verifying the actual claims made. I’ve verified one with just a modicum of googling. I’m hoping they will reach out to me, and we can sort the rest.
You know, if the guy is honest and just making his living in the world, there’s no reason to tar him with style-based crap; we can have that argument elsewhere, and it’s been beat to death. That’s not the focus of the thread, as current, and since I’ve taken a personal and active role in it, I would appreciate the peanut gallery to remain at arms reach.
No offense meant, Bill, I appreciate your input always (and Rayce’s sometimes :); just trying to run this one in manner that reflects well on the site, regardless of the outcome. I want to keep tightly focused on the claims and that resolution.
Some people take Kempo and hapkido serious… those people are usually like 10 or 11 or something but you know there’s that.
I went to a kempo forum while down the rabbit hole and yeah, it’s quite the circus in terms of rank, technical stuff, lineage, and grand masters.
Even the Kempo guys were complaining about how many grandmasters there are.
One of the guys Boren got rank from was actually a topic of discussion.

In deed. Without major federations shit goes off the Rails. Since there aren’t any major hapkido orgs that govern competition it’s kinda hard to pin anything down as legit. Same goes for Kenpo.
Hence the “LOL Kenpo” black belt tags I would guess.
So I feel qualified to address the validity of Ke?po belts. <----sarcasm font
Also, I legitimately did train in Ke?po waaaaaay back in the day. But don’t have anything from back then. I’m pretty sure my wife accidentally burned my certs when starting a bon fire one time. Seriously!!

Mine are all in a folder in a box somewhere. As a certified blue belt, I can say I honestly wouldn’t care if my wife burned that shit up.

Yeah, when she did it I made her get me another beer to make up for it.
The cert for my black belt was dated a while before I got it. My teacher made the cert and then we just kept pushing the ceremony back. Sooooo when I was told I was going to be promoted and my certificate that I have at the DoJo vs when we had the ceremony are off. Certification is nice , but kicking ass is better. I dont know or really care which one makes it official. It’s a bit of a grey area.
