Redboy BJJ

I recently came across a website for a school called Redboy Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, whose instructor is listed as one Paul Rodriguez. He would appear to be the gentleman with the glabrous pate in some of the school photos you can click through here:

http://www.redboybjj.com/pictures.html

Among the school pictures is one of the empty mat room. Go back and take a close look at that picture. The Duck’s sharp eye took note of a couple of features in that mat room. Note in the upper left of the photo that there are three tracks of fluorescent lighting, two parallel, one perpendicular to the other two, kind of like a square U-shape. Note also that there are a couple of white support columns whose lower halves have been padded with blue mats wrapped around them.

These same features may be discerned below in a photo taken at the mysterious “Long Island academy” where notorious BJJ fraud Robson Pereira (standing next to one of the padded columns) was presented with his CBJJ third degree diploma by Grandmaster Francisco Mansor (wearing red belt). Someone looking a lot like Rodriguez appears fourth from left in the lineup.

Is this a serious post?

That is Paul, he was an instructor for Kioto and business partners with Master Mansor for years. They split up earlier this year, and Paul kept that location, so it is the same exact school Master Mansor used to run; just redecorated and renamed, so I’m not quite sure what you’re getting at…

Paul is now under Joey Scarola as am I… being that I actually live at the academy and have since before Paul and Master Mansor split up. That picture on Pereira’s site was taken at a recent annual “Kioto Promotion”. Master Mansor promotes all his students to their deserved rank once a year at his academy (weird I know, one of the first things we dropped). So the “Mysterious Long Island Academy” was in fact the school Master Mansor himself was running (Kioto BJJ Port Jeff).

FTR Paul never did any training with Pereira, and had absolutely nothing to do with this promotion either; other than the fact that he got another stripe added to his purple belt that day by Master Mansor, and he lined up with all of the Kioto instructors behind Master Mansor for the ceremony.

Any questions?

Fraud in BJJ is a very serious matter, my friend. Just recently an internet posse from several boards treed some miscreant who was trying to pass himself off as being a BJJ BB under “the Gracies in Brazil.”

Any questions?

  1. You mentioned that Rodriguez was now under Joey Scarola (who, by the way, got his BJJ BB from the Serra brothers). Why doesn’t Rodriguez mention that fact on the Redboy site? If an academy is being operated by a purple, prospective students might want to know who the purple is under. And knowing that the purple is under a black who is under Matt Serra certainly can’t be bad for business.

  2. Why is there no address or map or directions on the site? People might get the idea that the site is some kind of Al Perry cyber dojo or something…

  3. Master Mansor promotes all his students to their deserved rank once a year… So was Robson Pereira a student of Mansor who “deserved” his rank? Pereira is under Marcos Santos–so why would he be getting his third degree from Mansor?

  4. Were you at that promotion ceremony, by any chance?

  5. Do you know who the second guy from the left is–and how he participated in the Robson Pereira fraud?

If you are talking about the guy I think you are this is really funny.

I hope you realize Duck that Mikey Triangles is the one that started the threads on the guy using “The Gracies in Brazil.”

I have no knowledge of the other questions, but this question is fairly dubious. So what if there is no address on the site? Martial arts is local trade; people walk by the sign in front of the storefront, or hear about the place from friends or look in their phonebook or see the place when they are doing their laundry or peer out the window of the LIRR traincar as they pull into the station at the end of their evening commute and that’s how people find out about a location. (I used to live in Port Jeff and know that little strip mall by the train station fairly well.)

That some other guy, likely fradulent, training a few people outside of a garage also doesn’t have an address/directions to his dojo hardly matters.

No shit?

 As I’m sure you know; I basically spearheaded that whole thing. I was the one who “Challenged Him”

The site was put up very quickly and hasn’t been properly updated since me and Paul have been “officially” affiliated with Joey. That will be up shortly though. Currently we have a link to his site in our links.

the guy that did the site for us is a Capoeira student here, and he only trains a couple times a month, and works crazy hours, so it’s hard to get things done quickly.

  1. Why is there no address or map or directions on the site? People might get the idea that the site is some kind of Al Perry cyber dojo or something…

How the fuck could this be “an Al Perry cyber-dojo” when it simply has legit info? The site is being worked on and updated on a slow but consistant basis. We have a Capoeira student that is very preoccupied doing this for us, so we’re being patient.

  1. Master Mansor promotes all his students to their deserved rank once a year… So was Robson Pereira a student of Mansor who “deserved” his rank? Pereira is under Marcos Santos–so why would he be getting his third degree from Mansor?

I honestly don’t know. why don’t you call master mansor about that. I’ll give you his number if you want.

I do know that Marcos Santos was a Brown Belt under Mansor, but left and got his black elsewhere. I don’t know anything about Robson to be completely honest. I do know that he has absolutely nothing to do with RedBoy though.

  1. Were you at that promotion ceremony, by any chance?

yes, almost all kioto’s students in the USA were

  1. Do you know who the second guy from the left is–and how he participated in the Robson Pereira fraud?

Second guy from the left? on the line? That’s Kevin Wind Sr. and he had nothing to do with anything. He runs a school with his son in Massapequa, and is a purple belt under Mansor.

If you’re refering to Mansor himself then as I said call him. I’ll give you his number in a PM if you wish.

So why even have a web site then?

WTF is your point in making this thread anyway? Obviously you’re just nitpicking at BS to annoy me. WTF for? are you butt-sore for Al Perry?

Mainly because Master Mansor put on his website that the Kioto Port Jeff was no longer open. this made people think the school closed down completely, and Paul needed to let it be known that this wasn’t the case, and that the school had just changed names and managment.

For promotional purposes. Generally, an email or phone point of contact is sufficient.

Mikey has the specific answer for the site of his school, but that’s not the only possible answer. My school’s site has no address either, generally because we train out of month-to-month rented space.

Rofl.

  1. Why is there no address or map or directions on the site? People might get the idea that the site is some kind of Al Perry cyber dojo or something…

When I saw the site months ago before I joined RedBoy, I thought that was a little odd that there was no address, but a five second google search fixed that.

RedBoy BJJ
200 Wilson Street
Port Jeff Sta, NY 11776

Funny you mentioned that, there actually is a sign for Red Boy BJJ (on the big stripmall sign) right in front of the train tracks…

Yes, I’ve seen it. My parents still live in Port Jefferson and I visit them often.

Ever think about taking up the Jits?

With no physical address listed, people might think the site is simply a construct in cyberspace…

why don’t you call master mansor about that. I’ll give you his number if you want.

Thanks, but I spoke to Mansor (and his son) some time ago, and he fed me a lie.

I do know that Marcos Santos was a Brown Belt under Mansor, but left and got his black elsewhere.

Thanks again. I wasn’t aware of that little tidbit.

Second guy from the left? on the line? That’s Kevin Wind Sr. and he had nothing to do with anything. He runs a school with his son in Massapequa, and is a purple belt under Mansor.

Good to get a confirmation from someone who was actually there that that is indeed Kevin Wind, Sr. That’s who I thought it was. And he does have something to do with the Pereira fraud. One of my little helpers has an email from Wind in which he states that Pereira’s teacher, Mauricio Sakata, was listed on bjj.org, but that the webmaster misspelled his name as Mario Sukata.

Well it seems you know more about this Pereira business then I do.

The only “Pereira” that I heard was a blackbelt under Master Mansor was Fabricio Pereira (famous for breaking the shit out of a Shotokan Karateka’s arm). I actually remember asking about Robson that day (because I’d never seen him or heard of him before, and I thought he may have been related to Fabricio, and visiting from Spain), but I can’t remember what they told me.

Good luck in your investigation regarding Robson, but please recognize that it has literally nothing to do with RedBoy BJJ.

and thank you for pointing out where the website is lacking. I agree that it should definitely have a “contact info” page with a link to MapQuest, and I’ll get on Jacare (Capoeira kid doing the site) about that ASAP

Mikey,

Good luck with Redboy BJJ. Glad to hear you guys are hooked up with someone like Joey Scarola.

Thank you. Once we’ve got all the kinks worked out our team is going to be a pretty decent force.

We sent 6 people to the last NAGA (North American Grappling Championship) and came back with 6 medals placing 8th on the Team No-Gi Results chart, and that was without any of Joey’s guys (who did Grappler’s Quest instead the previous week). If all 6 also did Gi we probably would have placed there also:

http://www.nagafighter.com/nagc2007_results_team.asp

Once things are better organized and we all go together as one team we’re going to be able to score pretty high on the chart. I have a feeling 2008 is going to be a good year for us.

-Peace

I can’t speak for all of Mansor’s students, but I’ve trained with one extremely good Mansor black belt, as well as a multitude of his purples and browns. They’re all legit. Attacking an academy simply for having an outdated website is pretty bad form.

Where do you train again, DuckofDeath?

I saw a website that had Kevin Wind Sr. as a bb in bjj. Which is correct?
