Maybe this is old news, but, anyway. He’s supposed to fight Fedor, if they can get him.
…HDNet Fights has entered into a contract with Couture that is scheduled to commence upon the expiration of his Zuffa promotional agreement. At that time, the company plans to promote a fight between Couture and Fedor Emelianenko in Dallas, assuming terms can be reached with the highly regarded Russian heavyweight…
Randy has two contracts with Zuffa, or at least a single contract with two sets of obligations.
The first part is a four fight contract, he only fought 2 of the 4 and therefore Zuffa say his next two fights are with them. If he retires then so be it,but if he fights again he needs to fight for them 2 fights and then he is free thereafter.
He also signed a UFC promotional contract that he would promote the UFC and no other rival organisations during this period that expires around October 2008 (this year).
Randy is saying that in October all contracts with the UFC expire including any unfought fights.
Dana is saying - Randy is trying to screw us, he has to fight with us twice more or not at all, and also he has already broken his other contract by cornering his fighters in Team Couture in other fight leagues.
Who is right, probably they both are partly, and until Dana files court documents and gets orders to the contrary Randy will do what he pleases,
Currently they are all playing brinkmanship 101.
I really want to see Fedor fight someone good, and Randy looks to be that man at the moment.
I don’t get why Randy wouldn’t at least want to fight Nog, though. Granted this would only take care of one fight on the contract, but still I would think he would just want to fight him in general in addition to Fedor.
Imagine a career ending fight against the best fighter in the division versus waiting another year or two possibly getting more serious injuries like the broken arm in the gonzaga fight. I think he doesn’t wants to go out like some many other great fighters.
