I’ve read a lot of smack on this site about point fighting or (semi contact) being tag and slapping and some of the great point fighters in history being mocked and accused of not being able to throw down with the “so called” full contact guy’s. Just to clarify a few things… Joe Lewis and Bill Wallace were point fighters first. Jean Yves Theriault was a jiu-jitsu practitioner first and currently the top guy’s who are KNOCKING OUT COLD all the MMA and Full Contact guy’s in the WCL are Raymond Daniels, Jason Tankson, Jennifer Santiago, Joe Greenlaugh and about 10 others who have won 90% of their fights with the highest knockout percentage of all the fighters on the circuit. Food for Thought: JSP is beating Matt Hughes with a lead leg round kick and a “superman punch” which is actually a “diving blitz” and is obviously a guy with point sparring back ground… Remember no matter how much power your punch or kick might have, if you can’t connect with me, you have no power…
#1: Paragraphs. Please.
#2: No. On so many levels.
Lurk more, introduce yourself in Newbietown. What is Freestyle Martial Arts? Where do you take it and for how long?
Also, please, WCL is as much full contact as I am the Pope.
who is joe lewis? the boxer?
I also used to be a point fighter… it sucks…
Thank God I found Kyokushin and Judo <3
WAKO:
I don’t mean to pick apart your quaint world-view, but GSP is a kyokushin black belt.
FULL-CONTACT KNOCKDOWN RULES =/= POINT FIGHTING
Please find the nearest large container or body of water, insert your head, and await further instructions.
agreed
WCL = Wing Chun League? im confused
Hmmm, suddenly I want to see a MMA or K-1 competitor enter several points sparring tournies, just to prove a point.
Uhh… wtf? Do you know what the WCL is? Or do you just not know the meaning of “Full Contact”?
Oops, is WCL the Chuck Norris one?
Why yes, yes it is. I rescind my idiocy.
Me = Fail
I hear you, I think it was a half-assed attempt at slamming a format they didn’t like. I like the fact that there are different leagues with varying rules so that it’s not all identical styles of fighting out there.
My only questions to the O.P.,
Why is this in the News section?:evil5:
Do you have an article you are citing?:evil5:
Was this written up in a major publication?:evil5:
Do you know how to read forum descriptions?:evil5:
YMAS, Plz.
This is the kind of stupid shit that makes TMA people look dumber than they should.:angry5:
I apoligize Fickle Finger, I’m new to the site, and all I see is guy’s slamming things they evidently do not know… I was not sure exactly how or where to post, but I figured I would throw something up to see what kind of knowledge is out there… Currently of all the circuits out there the Chuck Norris WCL (World Combat League) is complete full throttle full contact and there are more knock outs per fight and round then in any other circuit out there. The reason is in the rules, they force guy’s to fight they don’t let them clinch or lie down in the guard for 3 minutes. Until UFC 12 years ago nobody was talking about MMA and now it seems like it’s the only respected art out there??? Very odd, Martial Arts of all kinds are great and I’m wondering why everyone is slamming the Martial Arts unless it’s a type that requires tatoo’s and messed up ears. Personally I have trained in the Lion’s Den in San Diego with Shamrock and did been involved in dozens of seminars over the years with Hughes, Joyce, Rickson, Renzo Gracie as well as recently with Tito, Frank Shamrock and Liddell. I feel they are all great Martial Artist but just because they have hit mainstream does not mean that the other arts out there are no longer valid or impressive in their own right. Personally for me, I have chosen stand up arts and for the record “FREE STYLE” is because I am free from a certain style, when I started training I guess that was the word for MMA? Jiu-Jitsu,Judo,JeetKune Do, Karate, Kick Boxing and Boxing are the main styles that are incorporated into what I teach and train in… Saying FreeStyle would be similar to MMA but I would rather not lable myself as such!!!
No ground game = NOT MMA
You take any “MMA” fighter and put him in a WCL like event then you totally negate half if not more of his game.WCL is Chucks attempt to revive popularity in full contact karate. Which is basically what made him famous… that and the Bradock movies which just plain fuckin rocked when I was like 7.Lets take your beloved WCL uber badasses and put them in an MMA even and see how they fair.
If you are an instructor then please link your school.
Wako:
1- i agree with tabwyo
2- For the love of god man use some paragraphs- a solid block of text is hard to read…
3- there are many people who only practice one form of martial arts, or like yourself crosstrain with others. Please familiarize yourself with the style forums, newbietown and the search function.
Thank you, and have a nice day…
PARAGRAPHS YOU DUMB TWAT
O.P.
Depending on which style or styles you view as your primary focus, we have specific style forums for the Traditional Martial Arts. They are acessed through the link that says style field at the top of the page.
I do American Freestyle Karate, which has a similar blend of arts to make it ‘more complete’.
I would not, however, liken it to true MMA, as it is not suited to the level or type of combat that they train for, and that argument has been revisited ad nauseum.
If you want to discuss the technical aspects of Striking, visit the strikistan forum, or the appropriate regional MA style forum.
Remember to keep a thick Gi on at all times, there are those here who will challenge your beliefs, and some who will just try to get a rise out of you.
