I myself hae been a fan of palm strikes, because for one you can take more damage with your palm, it takes alot to break your palm opposed to a fist, and they’re easier to condition.
now that I’ve had my say anyone want to share their opinion?

you look like a real fucking idiot when you miss and break a finger.
Both good points. I don’t like opening my hand up…unless it’s to clamp it right back closed…and that doesn’t qualify. So I wouldn’t use palm strikes…if I’m worried about my hands…I’ll punch to the body most likely.
I prefer no touch knock outs. I have never broken my hand from not touching someone.
Once in a while in knockdown videos I’ve seen people throw hooks to to the body using the palm. I think it’s because they get tired of punching elbows.
The ‘palm strike’ of which you speak is not for all.
And, not every target is a target for the palm strike.
Conditioning of the hand is important, whether fist,
palm, edge, knuckle, proper form is also imperative.

I while back I noticed someone in an MMA match using palm strikes to the head on the ground (from below). Not knockout punches, obviously, but the slightly shorter range seemed to give a bit more power.
I suppose any close position where a slightly shorter range would help could be a good application for a palm strike.
Other advantages in self-defence situations that I can think of:
legal: “but your honour, I only slapped him to try to get him away!”
protecting the hand - I don’t think I would break a finger–I can bend my fingers back parallel to my wrist. A barefisted punch could easily lead to a broken hand.
psychological: “You think that hurt? Next time I’ll use a closed fist!”
I think there was a similar thread a few months back and similar arguments were posted.
very true, but I prefer to use them more often than a punch
What type of palm strike are we talking about? Is this a palm thrust, or a slap? Are you hitting with the meaty part of your palm, or the bony corner part?
I’ll occasionally whack people with the bony corner, more like a shuto than a palm strike. Usually when I find myself in bizarre positions on the ground, and can’t get a good angle for a proper punch.
I use the end near the wrist, the meaty, bony part about two inches below your fingers
Why the hell was this thread moved from Strikeistan to Guantanamo Bay: Newbie and Misc. Technique Discussion?
Whatever…
I cut my hand open on a glass window 2 years ago. Palm strikes are a no-no.
…
…
…ah, screw it, I’ll ask:
Why were you performing palm strikes on a glass window?
