  1. If you have epic beard of epicness you don’t need BJJ.
  2. It clearly did go to the ground. The black gentleman was definitely laying on the ground after a few punches.

Every fight I’m in goes to the ground. I open with a buttscoot. YOU HAVE NO CHOICE.

The black guy would have won if he’d jumped guard.

Instead he needed the amberlamps.

Not every fight doesn’t go to the ground.

In Soviets Russia, ground goes to fight.

Not every house catches fire yet I bother getting fire insurance

So the saying “most fights go to the ground” gets repeated for years and years, and then someone decides their clever counterpoint to this is “not all fights go to the ground”. Brilliant. Also, is it no longer cool to ask random black people I meet on public transportation if they would like to shine my shoes for a shiny nickel?

This.

All my fights used to end with me on the ground. Face down. Crying. Wishing I had never told her to do the dishes.

Looks like the black guy was on the ground at the end. If the beard dude had continued the fight after that point instead of walking away then the black guy would have been helped by knowing some ground technique.

The original numbers were indeed from police statistics. Generally, police have to grapple a resisting subject in order to put handcuffs on them. What we can draw from this is that when one combatant wants to go to the ground, the fight will likely go to the ground.

The second thing to consider, at least here in the US, is that the most commonly trained martial art is probably high school wrestling, which means that even if the fight starts standing if the wrestler becomes aware he is losing he will almost certainly attempt to take the fight to the ground.

Third, of course not all fights go to the ground. That’s why the term “most” is used. Kind of the definition of “most”, isn’t it? Fucking durr.

All my fights start on the ground. I have to stand somewhere.

yea, sometimes i end up flying when i’m fighting…

or maybe it’s just me getting high i dunno

All my fights start on the ground. I have to stand somewhere.

I thought by now you’d have gained the ability to fly.

That’s a kind of weird argument if somebody doesn’t train striking at all.

Comments?[/QUOTE]Yes, read the rules.

Terribly sorry, thought it was YMAS where one was supposed to bash other styles… though the thread evidently ended up being a great big trolling thread.

Yes it was, but we have a rule thread that states that just a link and the word “comments” is not allowed. It is what we call a low content thread.
