Why would more experienced grapplers want to go and train with a group of white belts?
If you want to improve, you should take advantage of the number of good instructors in Perth. Training with a gi will still improve your no-gi.

I went down and had a blast. It was good to roll with some new guys, as rolling with the same people in my class gets a bit stale sometimes. I didn’t go down there to get direct tuition from anyone, I have my own coaches to do that. I went down to have a bit of fun.
Isn’t that what its supposed to be about? It’s not like I’m a wing chun guy teaching another wing chun guy how to crapple, I’m just a wrestler who likes to wrestle and grapple.
And you know what? I even non-intentionally picked up some small things that I could work on, just like I do whenever I roll with any of my classmates.
Plus, you can make some friends and maybe has some beers! :occasion1

you’ve only been training 8 months. johnny is asking why an EXPERIENCED grappler would bother going out of their way to train with a bunch of beginners. from what i can tell he is asking the op why should he expect to attract good grapplers who will provide him with free training instead of joining a legitimate gym. it is a fine question to ask.
I’m not implying I am an experienced grappler. I was only giving my opinion on the situation.
Noone is expecting a black belt in BJJ to come down, but if you are into grappling/wrestling/judo/whatever, it would be a bit of fun and a good supplement to proper tuition and training.
I already have a school which I train at 3 days a week, so I am not there to be taught anything directly, it’s not a blind leading the blind situation.
Apologies if I’ve misunderstood here, but it just seems that everyone is getting a bit snarly about these guys offering an open mat for anyone to roll.
That’s right, and I don’t see anyone else from Perth putting their hand up in this respect either. It’s a huge first class facility that we were hoping to get a few people down for a bit of fun.
Namaste came down, seemed to enjoy himself and taught us a few things (not the least of which is that I am very out of shape). I’m keen to start back training at a ‘proper’ gym (will probably look at joining his gym) but I have a couple of things holding me up until May next year. In the meantime I’m happy with this setup.
I can’t really (time wise) afford to train more than once a week at the moment, I don’t want to train in a gi and I’m not willing to pay $120 a month for the privilege.
And yes, everyone does like beer!
No one is getting “snarley”, I was just offering a reason why more people haven’t taken you up on your offer, like you said no one else in Perth has done this, so good on you for taking the initiative and arranging something that works for ya
i iz stop caring now, that was all the way yesterday! 
I find this amusing given that high level mma fighters will, from time to time, wear the gi. I guess you know more about grappling than former UFC title contenders though?
You’re at the point where any good grappling training will help a ton, regardless of what clothing is being worn. There are good facilities and instructors teaching in your area. Is the 120/month really a one day a week rate or is that the unlimited?
You have good instruction available to you. If you fail to take advantage of it you will always be a crappler.

Of the local clubs I know of, $120 would more than cover training 5-6 days a week including open mat, classes etc, etc etc
