At an apartment on Hilliard Street, a 17-year-old man said a 20-year-old man pushed him to the ground and kicked him in the face because he refused to give the 20-year-old some of his pizza.

The 20-year-old admitted to the scuffle over pizza. He was charged with simple battery.

At a Laundromat on Fairburn Road, a 36-year-old man approached an off-duty officer and accused him of taking his MARTA card. The man threatened to harm the officer if he did not produce the MARTA card.

The man was arrested for disorderly conduct.

News of the Weird

1993 – Alvin Lastimado Jr., 18, was arrested in August at the Wahiawa, Hawaii, Public Library and charged with assault. He had been holding a woman against her will in his home, where he began to utter a satanic chant.

In the middle of the chant, he forgot the words and told the woman he was going to the public library to look them up. The woman got free and called the police, who intercepted Lastimado in the “occult” section.

1991 – Jail officials in Clearwater, Fla., released inmate Michael Ewers in May after falling for his escape plot. Ewers, in jail awaiting extradition to Alaska, telephoned local jailers from inside the jail, pretending to be an Alaska official, saying it was not worth the expense to return Ewers there and therefore to let him go. They did.
