My standup game consists of TKD middle/low kicks, MT low kick, MT clinch. What do you guys think? My base art is mainly TKD though. Should I add some boxing?
when you say this do you mean you actually learn MT from a MT teacher or do you mean you do tkd and attempt to pick up how to do MT kicks from the intarnet
im seriously interested because someone doing both is a pretty rare thing, most people try MT realise how cocktacular tkd is and switch fully over.
I actually learn MT. Why is TKD cocktacular? I’ve always believed it’s the hand holding the gun, not the gun.
But yeah, I suppose MT is better and more complete.
I’d say it’s like the difference between a bbgun and an M16
No. All boxing teaches you to do is utilize your best and fastest striking tools to their maximum effect while learning superior slipping and movement skills.
Boxing is completely worthless to anyone that knows how to kick and clinch.
Lol. I get that a lot. I don’t really care what other people say though. You’re entitled to your opinion.
Being able to reliably hit CBM is more important than the specific gun you’re using, but that doesn’t mean a .38 isn’t better than a .22.
if you have good standup, wouldnt adding a grappling art work best
wresting judo bjj?
You didn’t learn boxing with your muay thai?
Oh no don’t get me wrong. Every MT teacher teaches basic boxing technique but I meant I didnt’ take boxing exclusively with like a boxing coach, per se.
I mostly rely on TKD for kicks though, unless it’s a low kick.
Hay guys I do BJJ for my stand up what do you think pretty cool huh?
Dandy.
To get a more serious response I’d say put in a video of you sparring or doin some drills. These guys can be hectic but you wont get much without video proof.
:owneddanc
Yes you should do boxing, its the best combat sport in the world. When I took up boxing I realised the importance of head movements and footwork which improved my standup game a lot.
Oh, but you do young one. You do . . .
I mostly rely on TKD for kicks though, unless it’s a low kick.
You actually train muay thai? WTF are they teaching you that you still use TKD kicks.
Ok, me confused. Would knowledge of kicking and clinching gives you knowledge you get from boxing .ie. knowing good slipping and movement skills, head movement and footwork? Or they become secondary cuz of good kicking and clinching skills? I ask cuz I know shit about stand-up. All I’ve ever done were Shotokan katas and hitting focus mits (yeah, it sucks. :new_Eyecr :eusa_booh )
From now on I think we should all attach a sarasm rating at the bottom of our posts so that people aren’t confused.
Sarcasm rating: 7/House MD
*ahem…me me me me…
fuck boxing.
That is all…
Dude, when you do TKD kicks, what category of TKD are we talking about. If you say WTF crap you need to stop, slap yourself in the face and then go learn how to do real kicks.
