try postion specific drilling, done at full speed as live rolling but with the starting positions set to work specific areas of your game.
from guard for top postion to pass or sub and for bottom position to sweep or better their position.
or
side for the person on bottom to escape whilst person on top controls
new moves should be drilled but if you cant control your opponant then you will never sub them. exept by fluke “snatched” subs, understand WHY moves work not exact subs, then you can adapt as you roll.

It’s really interesting because i’ve heard people say that at the highest level in jiujitsu there are no moves, just ‘concepts’ – and i can’t say i agree with this at all. Attempting anything that you haven’t drilled before is usually a bad idea.[/quote]
i disagee, if you know why a sub works then you can use modified position/moves.
such as if you know that you have to cut off blood to both sides of the neck to choke out your opponent, it doesnt matter if you know 3 chokes that can be stopped by your opponent. just keep working for it if your position is sound they arnt going any where.
i agree you shouldnt try anything in comps that you dont know unless you are so far down on points you cant make them up. but in training try everything and anything, thats why you train after all.
i dont care if i get tapped in training so long as i dont let it happen the same way twice. adapt and overcome.
100% you cant escape a sub when its in the final stages before you tap, dont let it get that far.
escape your elbow to his hip and the mat, then you can work to escape. the leg over head escape will be very difficult if the guy know what hes doing or you arnt that flexible. i really wouldnt recomend letting it get that far.
gergus, there is a reason why it says, “This forum is moderated with an iron fist” under the Advanced Grappling Discussion forum header on the main forum page.
Here is the part that specifically pertains to you:
General comments like, “I’m just a beginner in grappling, but I too find the spider guard useful, Chuck.”, or “Good job!” will not be tolerated as they are of no value to knowledgeable grapplers.
Your comments are general in nature and do not contribute anything new or meaningful to the discussion.
Thank you for wasting 5 minutes of my life cleaning up your mess.
