Mike Tyson Did The Hangover for Drugs

I’ve always been a fan of Mike Tyson. It probably isn’t unknown among our circles the man had some problems, but it is sad to hear he thought The Hangover was going to help him make enough money for drugs:

It is good to know he has since started taking care of himself, he is a boxing legend and was the Champ while I was growing up, I still hold him in high esteem, despite the rape allegations and there is no way I could hold drug use against anyone without spontaneously exploding with hypocrisy.

Do well, Champ, stay clean.

I couldn’t agree with you more. People have always taken Mike way too seriously. I love the way he messes with people’s heads, and says just what ever the fuck he wants to. He’s a boxing legend and comedy gold…

When he said he was going to eat lennox lewis’ children, and then “praise be to Allah!”… I laughed my ass off, but a bunch of people that I knew acted like they got offended by it, so I just went around saying it to everyone… Just to piss them off.

NOBODY has better quotes than Randall Cobb BUT, Tyson does bring it.

I would like to see him become a trainer. Say what you want about the guy but he KNOWS boxing

Tyson’s not half as dumb as he makes out to be if you actually listen to him. I think my favorite quote of his was something like “I’m a dumb kid who grew up in the ghetto with nothing, then one day you tell me I’m heavyweight champion of the world and give me millions of dollars, and you expected me to be responsible with it?”

My other favorite was this- “At times, I come across as crude or crass, that irritates you when I come across like a Neanderthal or a babbling idiot at times. But I like to be that person. I like to show you all that person because that’s who you come to see.

Emphasis added. Say what you want about the guy, but he obviously knew what was up more than pretty much anyone gave him credit for.

I have a soft spot for Mike as well…I really think that things may have turned out quite a bit differently for him if he had afew people around him that truly cared about his well being. Instead, he was surrounded by vultures and jackals who wanted to take as much as they could from him.
I hope he stays clean and finds a way to be happy.

Ya gotta love Randall Cobb… I mean, what’s not to like? He’s from the lone star state, Iron Chin, quick wit, AND he was the evil biker dude in Raising Arizona.

i’m on the zoloft to from killin’ y’all

Had a chance to meet/shake hands with Randall at the Blue Horizon in Philadelphia PA a few years back during a bachelor party. Still an imposing guy.

I noticed no one had yet pointed out…the very sad (accidental) death of his baby girl just before the Hangover was filmed. If that had happened to me I’d need some serious medication just to cope.

I lol’d… That was a Tyson Quote that I had forgotten about.

Yeah… He lives around there somewhere I think. You didn’t get a picture, man? At least a sig? would have been worth something.

I had no idea who it really was until later on, even though I had seen Raising Arizona and knew the name. He’s much older now (mid 50s? and was shaven in a sportcoat at the BH) so he didn’t quite match up with the “iconic” images with beard, or in the ring etc. After we left for Delilah’s someone told me and I felt stupid.

But then we went here, like I said:

Watch the DVD biography it explains a ton about the man. I think that is where the quote that Neo posted came from.

A soft spot for the guy despite the rape allegations. Huh.

Nope, sorry. I get his childhood, I get that the world probably tumbled off its axis when he got the money flowing and again when D’Amato died and people used him and nobody cared about him . . . but he’s responsible for his actions.

Don Gwinn, those rape allegations are suspect to me, so yes, I still have a soft spot. The guy was young, the undisputed boxing champion of the world and a millionnaire with the ability to pull any chick he wants and he rapes a model that comes back willingly to his hotel room? Not saying it didn’t happen, but, well, I have my doubts.

As another aside, I can’t find it on the net, but I heard someone is suing Tyson claiming they are the original “Iron Mike”. Unbelievable.

Yes, I know semantics. Oh and I’d say lawyer semantics as he never uses the word “rape” again after addressing the initial question.

He uses advantage and chastity.

Not telling you what to believe but, this definitely made me look at him in another light.

I knew a guy who went to high school with the girl who accused Tyson of rape. According to him, the girl was a complete slut.

That doesn’t mean he didn’t rape her, but it adds a bit of color to the story regardless. I haven’t followed Tyson too closely, but I would expect that if it was in his character to do such a thing, there would be a lot more complaints and allegations along the same lines, going back for years.

Did you see in that article, it says he is on a vegan diet?!

THE WORLD IS UPSIDE DOWN

Believe what you want, because we can none of us prove any of this. But there was a LOT more to Tyson’s record of raping, beating and mistreating women than one allegation from one girl who went to high school with a guy Phrost knows. His relationship with his wife, for instance, who was arguably more famous than he was (and it wouldn’t surprise me to find that she managed her money–even before she got so much of his–than he did, too.)

The fact that the guy was perceptive enough to understand what happened to him and how terribly he dealt with it doesn’t change or excuse any of it. When he says things like “I was this age and had this background and then I got this much money–what did you think was going to happen?”
You might find that funny, but it’s not a reason to think he wasn’t a train wreck–he’s telling you that he was. He’s just arguing that it was inevitable and he’s not responsible for it.
