hi as some of you know i am currently learning muay thai as replacement for san shou but everytime an opponent gets inside my guard i get hopeless due to the fact that i got use to far away fighting so i will start learning wing chun 3days a week muay thai 4days a week and i will try to get these two arts to help me in terms of san shou. please comment
firstly. that is MY AVATAR.
secondly, I’m not gonna hop on the wing chun bashing bandwagon, but I would really recommend you take some boxing or grappling instead to bolster your inside game. Wing chun, unless the school borrows some techniques from actual boxing, is just not as effective in close combat. Wing chun may help for self-defense against the average Joe, but against a trained fighter, boxing is the way to go.
or, even better, just stick with muay thai more. muay thai’s clinch game is pretty much all you’ll need for inside fighting. just keep at it, most people take a couple of months to a year to get good at close range fighting.
Oh, and uh, wrong forum man, this belongs in YMAS.
pwnt!

For the record, I introduced truepwrz to Miguel Hernandez in Sunset Park, Brooklyn yesterday evening. Miguel has had some success training people for regional SanShou and Kuoshu tournaments in the past. He hasn’t trained anyone for competition recently and is kind of itching to have the right guy(s) with the desire to compete walk through his door again.
Miguel had truepwrz briefly hit the mitts fed by another of Miguel’s students and almost immediately concluded truepwrz will probably not be ready for the competition truepwrz wants to enter in China come July.
Truepwrz,
You’ve got heart and the desire. Plus, you seem to be a nice young gentleman. Whether you seek training from Miguel or not, seriously:
Quit dicking around!
Dive in already with all your heart and make it happen. Right now, you are trying to “sit on the fence” and wait for the skills to drop in your lap. You are going to eventually get raped if you continue on your current course.
Jesus, this the second time I called the wrong forum a post would be moved to.
dude. you fail at internet.
heart and desire? truepwrz is a fucking pussy from what I can tell, unwilling to put in the hard yards and continually looking for some easier way. He has stated more than once he doesn’t even want to do this it’s only his dad making him. The whole thing is just fucking pathetic.
Has he gone those 6 blocks to pickup that bar yet?
Hey, it’s twelve blocks … both ways!
On a somewhat related note, I figured out why he keeps getting lost. He vision is horrible in both eyes uncorrected and he broke his glasses. Street signs are mounted high enough he can’t read them even while standing directly under one when squinting.
… and, c’mon! I was just being polite with the “heart, desire” part. He’s just a typical HS teenager. Regardless, at the very least, he does seem to now recognize the extent of his skills and how much his “schoolyard fights” gave him a false sense of security.
or, even better, just stick with muay thai more. muay thai’s clinch game is pretty much all you’ll need for inside fighting. just keep at it, most people take a couple of months to a year to get good at close range fighting.
i am going to compete in a competition no knee or elbows allowed, by the way this garfield avatar is the right for me =) its made to be with me
tom kagan by the way leaving miguels school i went the opposite way home and got lost again… i realized at 22nd street and turned around then i went to a grocery store went the opposite way again then finally at 11 i finally got home if this keeps on i think i can skip the jogging part
Whatever you do truepwrz, make sure you are training hard. There will be video at the NYC TD again and I look forward to the suplex
Seriously though is this Wing Chun guy focusing on San Shou techniques I hope?
Also, how much do you pay a month in total, for all the schools you go to?
i just realized that with height, i give up almost the same amount of height to him as couture did to sylvia… and almost none of the weight.
this is going to be fun.
i decided to not go to wing chun school i cant remember any of the forms and katas maybe i am just not talented in terms of wing chun and dont think it can do much for me like boxing can
as for total i pay 70 a month total so far well i just weighted myself today and it was 163 so i am slowly gaining weight advantage next year if my plans go right i should be 175 then we can relive the moment of couture vs sylvia =) as for the supplex part i need to think how to counter supplex =P
Boxing will only do something for you if you actually go train it.
lol i know
Are you sure?
Time to work harder on your writing skills sunshine, they’re more important than dicking around trying to look like Chuck Liddell. At the moment you’re sounding like a 5th grade ‘special’ kid.
Apologies if you are either in the 5th grade, special needs, or both.
(not you Kagan)
lol i guess i am, as for runningdog i am trying very hard already english skills are hard to get
Truepwrz,
I’m not convinced you really are sure about that.
RunningDog,
He’s 16 and emigrated to the U.S. only a few years ago.
