Martial arts to be main focus at Taiwan’s elementary school
Miaoli, Taiwan, March 25 (CNA) Central Taiwan’s Miaoli County will soon begin building an elementary school that will focus on teaching students about martial arts, county officials said Thursday.
Miaoli County Magistrate Liu Cheng-hung said the county government will invest NT$320 million to set up the martial arts school and the new school will begin to enroll students in September 2011.
While three- fifths of the curriculum will be related to martial arts training, students will be given lessons comparable to those taught in regular elementary and secondary schools, according to Liu.
At the initial stage, the school will only enroll students aged between 11 and 13, (equivalent to grades 5 to 7 at elementary and secondary schools) , although the school is planning to eventually accommodate students aged between 6 and 15.

Several places in the States have attempted to bring martial arts into school curriculum, even including mixed martial arts. Do you think this would work for your area?
My general experience with kids and martial arts from when I did krotty is that most little kids suck at martial arts until they’re about 12-13, regardless of how much you teach them.
there is a private school in toronto that has a judo program as part of their curriculum. the instructor basically copied over the japanese program as it is taught in japan and replicated.

i know some 6-10 year olds who will choke the shit out of you if you don’t watch yourself.
I know there’s this place that parents send their kids to live at this house where they teach martial arts. But by day they still get up and go to school, they just return back to that place instead of their normal homes. Kinda like how some parents send their kids off to the Shaolin Temple. But the place I’m talkin about is in Taiwan as well. I’m pretty sure there are also a few schools with MA included in the curriculum.
In NY, and in general, I think it would be a good idea to teach some damn discipline and the concept of giving a fuck about the guy next to you. At the same time however, douchebags will also be created. Douchebags will always exist man. So it’s not a flawless system.
