Hello,
Im looking to go from Nick Cerio Kenpo to a different style in Denver. I’m seeking opinions on Krav Maga, Combat Hapkido or Kali. I need something easy to learn and effective for me (I’m a cop) and to deal with the daily road rage idiot. I dont plan on taking on bikers or competing in competition. I would love to hear from someone with experience or knowledge of the above.
As well, has anyone heard of Seizan Kempo Jiu Jitsu? There is a school of this name in Denver, but I cant get much info through the internet.
looking for new style

Are you looking specifically for a Korean style?
Hapkido has techniques that might be good for a cop. However, it’s not “easy to learn” and you run the risk of attending a school that does not practice the techniques in a live manner.
Being a cop, doesn’t your gun (or taser) usually keep you well-protected from road rage idiots?
No, I’m not necessarily looking for a korean style, just something effective. I’m not worried about road-rage idiots while on duty; it’s more for off duty when I run into aggressive people. It’s amazing how many people are so quick to invite others to pull off the road just because they are driving the speed limit and slowing them down. Anyway, I’m looking for something with levels of force, not so much Muay thai where it’s usually all out brawling all the time.
Since you’ve taken Kenpo, I’m assuming you already have some knowledge on how to strike. Why not try something like Judo? A nice throw can end a confrontation quickly. (You learn those in Hapkido too, but they’re not the emphasis like in Judo.)
Judo classes are a guaranteed workout and prices are usually cheaper than other martial arts.
Escrima( Kali ) would be a great art for you. I’m assuming cops in Colorado carry batons, I used to live there but I can’t say I hungout with too many cops. I have a friend who just graduated from police academy and he said all the baton stuff they learned was very similiar to FMAs
Hero2u, please do not multiple post the same thing in 3 different forums.
Judo. ahem Yudo would be good for you.
My Opinion on Combat Hapkido is that it sucks… Basically, the guy who runs it is a Wheeler and a Deeler just looking to sell ranks, tapes, and seminars… Not really looking to broaden the horizons of his students, the art, or the philosophy.
Krav Maga?? Again, just my opinion here… It Sucks too… Basically, the techniques are all from Hapkido, Aikido, and Striking… And most of those techniques are nothing special.
I know nothing about Kali.
In the Vain you’re looking in, I would suggest finding a good Jiu-Jitsu School and find someone that can give you some self defense walk-ins for one or more of the following to complement the Jiu-Jitsu… –> Hanminjok Hapkido, HanMuDo, HosinDo, Teuk Gong Mu Sool, and/or any other art that has specialized training in joint manipulation and pressure points etc…

Hero,
You have posted the same thing twice in the KMA forum. This does not make you my favorite person.
This is not the place to be asking people about Kempo, Kali, or Krav. We have other areas for that.
