I’m not saying there isn’t good boxing but shouldn’t it have squeezed out the bad?
That’s true. Would you care to enlighten me? I don’t like being ignorant but there’s nothing wrong with being sheep fed.
mmmm lamb chops
I love listening to boxers try to say how to punch and how to hold your hands up high. Oh and the footwork is wrong. Then I ask how often they’ve done mma and the answer is usually the same: Never.
Name all the successful boxers in MMA and then we’ll do a comparison of their techniques vs all the other fighters and then we’re not talking from a point of ignorance.
I’m under no illusions that pure boxing would ever have success in MMA, but…
One can always turn that around and ask: how many folks in MMA have successfully transitioned to boxing?
Why would the cream of the crop of boxing ever move over to MMA when they’re raking in millions of dollars per pay-per-view? The potential Pacquiao-Mayweather fight alone promises to be the biggest payday in the history of PPV. Who in MMA makes that kind of money?
There are several MMA fighters who have fought pro boxing matches. I’m certainly no expert, but it doesn’t take a genius to see that MMA striking has to take into account a whole load of variables that pro boxers don’t (WAY smaller gloves, kicks, threats of takedowns, etc.).
The boxing in MMA is “so bad” because you’re looking for boxing in an MMA fight. UFC 1 told us this will never work. Welcome to 1993.

Wow, you completely missed the point.
Nick Diaz
KJ Noons
and a few others I can’t remember.
Sure, but what is their record against boxing’s cream of the crop?
That is true, but boxing has a pretty singular purpose: striking with your fists. Within that purpose is a whole different set of variables to consider.
I’ve seen pretty good boxing in an MMA fight. However, a boxer would be stupid to continue only with boxing when he’s being smacked in the shins or wrestled to the floor. I mean, isn’t the point of MMA to use whatever (legal) tool at your disposal to win?
One cannot make the presumption that because something in boxing is correct, therefore it must be correct in MMA. That’s like saying that it’s good form to chew your food before you swallow, therefore the best way to win at hungry hungry hippos is to take your time and digest each of the pearl white spheres of nourishment.
Elements of one may be included in the other, however, it doesn’t carry over in its entirety.
Irrelevant. No fighter could conceivably work their way to the cream of the crop in both MMA and boxing. I’d ask the same question of you: How many boxers have done well against MMA’s cream of the crop?
Both questions are meaningless.

You apparently missed the point. You cannot use “boxing” in an MMA fight the way a boxer can. Again, this has been settled for nearly 2 decades. Not sure where you’ve been.

…which is exactly why you won’t see “good boxing” in MMA.
Okay, now let’s try this again. Let’s take the MMA fighters we do know, who have a good boxing background, and let’s compare the comments to the general techniques.

Next time just answer the question.
Nick Diaz only has one fight under his belt. KJ Noons has a decent record, but he hasn’t fought any elite boxers.
I’ve already mentioned Jerome Le Banner who’s done pretty well for himself in MMA. Butterbean has a decent K1 record. Hell, Chris Lytle began as a boxer.
Yes, elite boxers don’t set the world on fire when they transition to MMA. But then again, neither do mixed martial artists set the world on fire when they transition to boxing.

No shit. MMA fighters have to train striking, clinching and grappling. Boxers only train striking.
