OK guys.
Which lasso pass do you guys recommend for short people to use against tall, long legged people?

Swim your lassoed hand to the outside of their lasso leg/thigh ,once your hand is on the outside pass on that side.
I dont recomend any other passes really.
There is an Estima lock if they put their foot too shallow playing lasso.

Retreat backwards while swimming your hand to the outside.

Ankle lock with ashi garami.
Secondly I kneel down, with the knee on the same side as the lasso up, and essentially heel hook the person(though it IBJJF legal). Catch their heel on my thigh, press their toes outward, if I am being nice I do it slowly and let them extract their foot. If I’m not, I do it fast and tap them with it.

I’m asking for jiu jitsu of the manly variety.

Wow, you are using Japanese terminology, what next, Morote Gari ?

LOL… That is Gracie Jiu Jitsu. They just have a weird name for Ashi Garami. If you really want to call it half-x-guard, or outside-x-guard, or single leg x guard feel free.

Just for reference…the Kodokan Version…

I think he may be saying that ankle locks are unmasculine

This is the sort of thing you guys are discussing ? I’ve been out of BJJ for a while, LOL. Lasso I mean, not Ashi Garami

Real men slam their opponent.

That move will only work on camera drilling or against women/men with a womans grip.
Its not addressing how to get out of a tight effective lasso. Its just silly.
Also, theres a rolling triangle when that dude is tripoded with horrible posture “passing”.

Yes, that’s the guard I have a lot of trouble passing when opponent has long legs and goes deep, like Galvao in this clip

This doesn’t make sense if they have a tight lasso in.
Do you have a video?

Looked too easy to me. Just wanted to make sure I knew what t was under discussion.

Thanks, I remember loathing that type of guard.
I try, often unsuccessfully, to avoid letting my opponent get that grip in the first place.

The kneeling one? Yeah that won’t work with a tight lasso. When, in the video, Andre says “In tournament I see a lot of guys do lasso like this, just toes in the armpit” that is when the kneeling thing will work. For a deep lasso, I go to ashi garami. From there I can either ankle lock(or heel hook if that is legal) or start working single leg x guard sweeps.
