A former K1 kickboxing champion has been sentenced to two and a half years imprisonment for the manslaughter of his uncle.
Paul Kingi was found guilty last month at the High Court in Palmerston North.
Rangiwananga Hawea Kingi died in January last year after his nephew punched him in the jaw in a fight over a bull.
The blow propelled him backwards causing him to hit his head on the concrete floor.
The 60-year-old later died in Wellington hospital of head injuries.
In sentencing Justice McKenzie accepted that Kingi was remorseful and had apologised to the victim’s family.
However, he told Kingi he had a violent tendency which he needed to address.
