Minor point for thought/discard.
Although the “Unarmed Combat System of the Samurai” was how it was phrased when I started in a Trad style, I have since heard a very senior sensei say that this is mistaken; it was the unarmed system of the working man. This makes more sense to me when considering the nature of the weapons used: nuns, kamma, bo - all essential agricultural tools, put to defensive use. Bokken, a cheap training tool - only a wealthy man (and likely member of the samurai class would be able to afford a genuine Katana).
I shan’t be defending this point too deeply but it makes quite a lot of sense in the context of the put-upon farmer being assalied by a marauding Ronin.
Cheers
