Jiujitsu on the grass

Yeah, I dumped after his, “I broke the rules, but down be an asshole” whining.
I’m still confused about the relationship of the OP to the guys in the video. Why would he post video of beginners trying to practice and not doing anything particularly outlandish?
I think he genuinely doesn’t understand what BJJ is and was trying to find out if this was the skillset of a BJJ beginner.

As he says:

I’m not posting this for the sake of derision, but to get an idea of the credibility of whatever it is they’re doing in terms of BJJ. It might be good BJJ for all I know.
I seem to recall that he’s from the BJC which is the traditional and very pro-Japanese Judo org in the UK. So its quite possible he’s never had any exposure to BJJ apart from people like Hedge telling him Judo sucks over on Judoforum.

Okay, to give a bit of background (which I should have done in the first place, but I’ll get back to that)…

I’m trying to understand what the hell is going on with the person in the video. He has been posting on judo forum for a few months and comes across as a particularly annoying troll, but I’m trying to give him the benefit of the doubt.

He posted this video a few weeks ago to demonstrate his skills at grappling. In terms of judo as I know it, there’s nothing particularly impressive there… although there are recognizable techniques that could work if done properly, they are badly applied and would never work as demonstrated.

Recently he’s come back claiming that he dominates the local judo brown belts in groundwork and that he’s going to be entering an advanced grappling tournament. My first thought is that he’s a deluded white belt and mistaking compliant practice for something that resembles competition. My second thought is that he’s going to get hurt.

But then, perhaps I’m applying my own world-view unfairly. A brown belt here is awarded only to advanced students and I now understand that “brown belt” in the US can mean anything from 3rd kyu and up. Secondly, not all clubs and organizations are equal, so it’s possible he could be beating brown belts.

The guy claims to be a BJJer. I genuinely know very little about BJJ and live in an area where it doesn’t really exist. My experience of it is from people who troll on judo forums and who only seem to be interested in arguing about which is better, judo or BJJ. I’ve seen Royce Gracie in UFC1, but that doesn’t exactly represent the rank and file of the sport.

I posted the video here as I thought it would have a better chance of being commented on fairly by BJJers who don’t have that particular chip on their shoulder (and who weren’t obsessed with trying to prove BJJ’s superiority at all costs). I posted it without any background information because I wanted to avoid leading any opinion by offering my own.
Nope, they have more experience than that.
If these guys are blue belts I’ll start to consider to commit seppuku with frisbee.

That guy would get tossed by UK Judo browns in five seconds. But he might well tap some that I’ve rolled with once it got to the ground.

I’ve never one single time trolled on Judoforum or posted about BJJ’s alleged absolute superiority over Judo, but thanks for casting a generalised aspersion. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I don’t really read the MMA or Other Martial Arts subforums there, and only really notice the BJJ when it is explicitly presented in an oppositional manner. Yes, it was unfair to generalize like that.

Sorry to be a bit hostile, I don’t think I’ve had enough coffee this morning.
