Is it true that Eddie Bravo thinks Wing Chun is a good compliment to BJJ?

Is it true?

Does he train in it?

Source?

Eddie Bravo also thinks the moon landing was staged and DMT induced visions of fractal god-minds are actual saucer people who actually talk to him.

So he’s half right?

If so, which half?

I, as a person who thinks drugs are super, think the power duo of joe and eddie gets into crazytown sometimes.

Some of the most out-there stuff I’ve ever heard was from DMT folks. I thought Bravo just smoked a lot of reefer, though.

Excuse me sir could you please back up and puff puff puff pass it on the left

Well the majority of wang chun guys flop on their arses when hit so it’s a fair statement.

On the actual substance of the question, Bravo mentions training some slap-happy kung-fu variant before starting BJJ in his book. He does not think highly of it, in retrospect.

If I recall on one of the podcasts or random youtube videos he says he uses some wing chung hand trapping to make life difficult for people going for hooks/chokes etc. I think the point was more “don’t lay there and just let people get their grips/hooks”. It wasn’t a “wing chung is awesome and I still trains it” endorsement.

I don’t remember where this was so you’ll have to forgive my lack of source.

  • Most hooks are delivered in closer proximity compared to jabs and crosses — as such often don't target the centreline. Attempting to trap a hook seems like a whole lot of work for little payoff. You're better off doing what most fighters do. Either use footwork to get out of the killzone, or go for a clutch / takedown.

    snip

Looking at Eddie Bravo’s reputation in BJJ, it seems inconceivable that he would recommend such a thing. Count me skeptical.[/QUOTE]

You’re using the definition of hooks from boxing, it means something completely different in grappling: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hooks_(grappling)

Got it. Well, I have no expertise in this matter, so I’ll defer to others who know more than me.

I want what hes smokeing

Indeed, I meant underhooks/overhooks in grappling, not hook punches. My bad on the lack of clarity.

Joe Rogan smokes a shitload of DMT. EB has mentioned DMT “experiences” he “might talk about in the future”

DMT rocks your socks off, and is pretty cool as far as I am concerned, but it directly stimulates the part of your brain that’s responsible for mystic/dissonant experiences. It’s very easy to think you’re had reality revealed rather than re-ordered or obscured.
