I couldn’t stand to put this in the BS section so I put it here:
At times like we are living in today, with boots on the ground facing live fire, Memorial Day takes on a a more immediate face. To most, it is just a three day weekend, with a paid holiday, but to many, even those like me who have never volunteered, it is a hallowed day, a special day. I do not have to wait for the holiday, I remember the sacrifice each time I watch PBS Newshour and see their faces in silence, each time I look at the Flag that flys in my neighbors Yard.
Regardless of the political reason a US Servicemen is put in harms way, it is for Freedom. To the Trooper, it matters not what Value the Liberal nor the Conservative can find in their fight. To any Patriot, it is not a question if the battle is for some just cause or not.
A soliders life and duty is just cause enough.
They go and do what the Country asks. Freedom is what we do with that here at home.
While you Party and Throwdown this weekend, please remember two things.
Many have proudly giving their lives to insure we have a Country that allows our freedom,
and that freedom still requires constant effort here at home.
You can damn the politicians to the depths of Hell (and your current crop of neo-fascists deserves it). You can fight against an unjust war with every fiber of your being (as I do). But you still have to respect the supreme sacrifice made by the warriors who gave everything for their country.
There are three war memorials in town. I’ll be visiting all of them Monday, just like I did last year.
I have heard, among scholars, this argument: “Why should I ‘support the troops.’ Aren’t they hired killers? Shouldn’t I support the cause, if it is just, and the soldiers themselves are merely soldiers?”
I feel the argument doesn’t take into account how terrifying even offering to fight in a war can be, but the argument is made.
Speaking of godly things, I dimly remember one of jesus’ parables…something about a Pharisee praying loudly in the synagogue and how he compared to the quiet wretch…can’t quite remember what the moral was, perhaps you can remind me.
I’m petitioning Congress to have a giant fucking pair of angel wings grafted onto every soldier before they go to war. What are YOU doing for your country?
How were either of those examples the message a story was trying to convey? Some doctor you are.
Which runs as follows:
.
Who was I criticising? Certainly not any soldiers. I have nothing but respect for my father, my grandfathers, two of my brothers and two of my uncles precisely because of their current or past service. I’m never going to criticise them for it. I wouldn’t criticise any of the friends we’ve lost either. I’m not forgetting shit like that. Fuck you nimrod.
Did I say otherwise? No I didn’t. Fuck you.
Why refer me to a post that had nothing to do with me or anything I said? Dick.[Ed- wow johnnycache was right this device is lame]
