I'm still grounded
It has been suggested that the presence of high kicks and flying kicks found in Southern styles, in Okinawan martial arts, and hence in modern non-Chinese styles such as karate and taekwondo (and by extension modern kickboxing) are due to influence from northern styles during the first half of the 20th century.[9]

Not without modifications. They koreans don’t crouch their backs when kicking, which unfortunately is a TERRIBLE habit by the chinese and japanese masters passing the techniques over, mostly due to a misunderstanding of body mechanics. The ideal posture is neither lean or crouch but somewhere in between. There were other differences as well, but this is the most glaring one.

You don’t get to post in the serious sections. I let the kickboxing one go a few weeks ago but only that one.

Speaking of trollshido, kung fu and general stupidity. I’m taking up Praying Mantis Kung Fu on Sunday. You’re the usual guy to go to on these things Omega. Have any experience? I’ve seen some fairly hilariously bad YouTube videos displaying the stuff so far but that’s it.

Dude should invest in a GFCI outlet.

Seven Star Praying Mantis according to the website. The place also teaches Hsing Yi, Bagua, five animals and Qigong. My only foree into Kung Fu was a little Lua Gua. So I’m not all that knowledgeable when it comes to this side of martial arts. I’m not expecting it to be all that combat effective, though most traditional CMA looks fun and acrobatic. Probably help a lot with my poor agility and my flexibility to boot as an added bonus.

What ever floats your boat. I would try out each of those, if you get the opportunity. I did Hsing Yi for a few years and really like it. Our Hsing Yi guys also competed in San Da competitions. Obviously you would do well with that. I did Bagua for a little bit and some of our Bagua guys competed in SanDa. But Bagua get’s pretty esoteric depending on who you train with.

Should be a fun time either way if the right people are there. Make sure you start a thread about it so we can follow your journey.

Thank you. I could start a thread about it and the rest of my martial arts journey given that I’m still really a beginner anyway. Though I don’t know it’s a tad… I don’t know, a tad bit of an ego stroking. In all honesty I don’t think I’m anything spectacular enough to warrant one as such.

You are definitely spectacular enough. Everyone is on a journey and all are as important the next. Plus the CMA forum needs more activity.

If you say so matey. I’ll see if I can get in on my first lesson Sunday, I’ve sent them an email yesterday asking if I’m okay to join the class and asking what I’ll need ect… So waiting on that back, suppose I could just turn up on the scheduled time but it’s best to ask first.

If I enjoy my first lesson and it’s something I may want to continue I’ll stick a post up in CMA or YMAS. See where it goes from there if there’s folks that are genuinely interested in it all.

Dear lord. Kung fu schools have these awesome traditions of not sparring (too deadly techniques), running up walls, and god knows what.

And you’re in my mental quarantine, punk.

I’m quite aware. I’m looking to learn it for the running up walls, forms, patterns and general fun of it all. Just as some thing to do on my Sundays. Its a performance and aesthetically pleasing art as opposed to much else. It just doesn’t bother me and I’m not going to be shouting about on here how I’m going to whoop everyone with teh deadly.

There’s a performance style called wushu (which is confusing since wushu could also mean generic kung fu). Anyway, that’s Jet li’s background.

I would do that instead…

I’m aware of the style but the choices of Kung Fu in my area is this or Wing Chun is neither practical or artistic. I would love to give Wushu a try though had I the chance.

Wushu?

What kind of nonsense is that? That’ Eddie Murphy in Mulan.

That’s odd. It’s very easy to find a wing chun place in Sweden.
That’s assuming either you would kick my ass or I kick yours, which is a false dichotomy.
No, you fail at logic.

Stalling.
That’s odd. It’s very easy to find a wing chun place in Sweden.
I think you misread what I put. There’s plenty of Wing Chun places around here. I’d just sooner set myself on fire than learn it. It has nothing to offer to me either as a artistic performance based art nor as a practical method of fighting.
