Thats bullshit what lights out just told you. Because JKD is such a rarified and unique MA practically the only way you will be able to learn it is through books IMO! Bruce Lees child is best understood by reading his book JeetKunDo by Bruce Lee, then there is Jun Fan Gung Fu; seeking the path of jeet kune do by Kevin R Seaman as a good follow up to this.
It is true that the best way of learning how to fight, is by real dojo training in a gym, under a black-belt or two. But the idea that you can’t learn extra lessons from books is pure bullshido, probably propogated by men who have never read a book in their life! j

Yes, it is a rule.
listen, learning from books is teaches a valuable lesson. you can learn things that way which cannot be taught in class. class can only give us feeders, and sparring practice. but would you believe it i learnt how to do the guillotine in a book, and havent stop using it in randori since.
Now the next time you choose to give me a warning/infraction because i disagree with the status -quo, or whatever consensual apparatus it is you have set up, remember this; you have insulted me, and in doing so you insult me family. This is a serious offence. No im not gonna travel to you, and no i will regret it if you take it on yourselves to ban me from this site. But i wont bow out, not to you.
